The Lost Tribe

In The Lost Tribe you get to go back in time and lead a prehistoric tribe to a new homeland. When the volcano that your tribe has always called "home" explodes and molten lava engulfs your village at its base, you have little choice but to assume command of your frightened tribe and seek out a different place to live. This means providing for your tribe's food, shelter, safety, and general happiness all along the way.
Six different scenarios provide a variety of challenges for players of various skill levels. The game's educational side is present in teaching the player about prehistoric cultures, artifacts, and mythology.

A fun little edutainment program in the tradition of Oregon Trail.
The Good
This game has similarities to Oregon Trail, King of Dragon Pass, and even Sid Meier's Pirates!, offering the player a chance to make management decisions in a historical/mythical setting. The result is a blend of RPG, adventure, and strategy. Oh yeah, and you have an online reference to all things prehistoric, which is where the meat of the education is in this educational game.
The Bad
Too much mouse clicking. Random events that you deal with are few, so there is too much repetition. Also, there are frequent well-intentioned attempts at comic relief that are highly anachronistic. This might confuse and distract children from the history here, and it isn't all that funny anyways.
The Bottom Line
Not the best educational game I've encountered, but it is actually fun to play, which puts it in the same elite class as Oregon Trail and Carmen Sandiego.

- There is a scenario in the game where you will come across a character referred to as "Piltdown Man". As every anthropology student knows, Piltdown Man is one of the most well-known fossilized human remains hoaxes in history. True to form, Lost Tribe's Piltdown Man will swindle your tribe if given the chance, and when he does, the other members of the tribe will say that it was obvious to them that he was a phony.
- There is another scenario where one of the characters will approach you with some "breadstuffs" he picked from a tree. The breadstuff looks a great deal like spaghetti in the picture. This is a reference to a well-known April Fool's joke broadcast by the BBC on April 1, 1957 in which "Swiss" people were shown harvesting spaghetti from trees.
