Description official descriptions

A deadly meteoroid named Impending Dume is about to destroy Earth, And it is up to the player to stop it. Based on the Disney and PBS TV series, Bill Nye the Science Guy: Stop The Rock! is a video game which puts the player to being a lab researcher to solve seven difficult science riddles.

The Nyecom 3000 is a useful tool to solving riddles and gathering information on every science-related topic. There are many different places in the lab to explore, such as the Micro Lab for looking at different things using a microscope, the Ocean Comm Center for searching for answers about the ocean and contacting Swell White Cap, as well as deploying the ROSE submarine, and the Sky Lab which takes an in depth look at the rockets and see them launch, plus getting access to the weather in the Control Tower. The game uses a timer to make the game look like it was in real life. After five days, the game ends.

The game features exclusive in-game characters such as Sam Andreas and Sue Nami.

A Fun-filled science adventure featuring Seattle's favourite!

The Good
To me, this game had a lot of interesting science topics in the game. The most interesting topics are the oceans, fossils and rockets. The riddles seem a little challenging, but players might get the hang of it for those who have the experience with the lab equipment.

The Bad
The game lacked an auto-save feature which automatically saves your progress of what you have completed. Also, I would like to see more science topics in this game than the oceans, fossils and rockets and so on that we have seen in other science games so far.

The Bottom Line
Despite the fact that this game is rare and hard to find nowadays, it is mostly used in public libraries and schools that have that game. So If you are Bill Nye fan like I am, I would definitely recommend it! This seems to be a competitor to 7th Level's Virgil Reality at the time that it was produced (1996) but it is a great science adventure to everyone who played it, including kids.

Trivia

Game Modes

There are two modes, “Join Nye Labs” and “Hang Out”. In Join Nye Labs, it will begin in adventure mode complete with the introduction. If you select “New Game Skip Intro” in the “New Game” screen, the introduction will not play, with the Nyecom already in use. There are three buttons added on the Nyecom, including “riddles”, “clue”, and “maax”. In Hang Out, these three buttons are omitted and you are free to use the equipment from Nye Labs without any time limit or adventure play.

Pressure Chamber Blow-up

Pressing the increase button on the Pressure Chamber when it is at the highest limit will explode the machine accidentally. There is a sign saying CLOSED FOR REPAIRS after the machine is blown up. If you wait a few minutes, the machine will be fixed. Sometimes in the “Join Nye Labs” mode, Bill Nye rants about the Pressure Chamber exploding because of a meteoroid Impending Dume was going to crash into Earth “as we know it”.

Stock Footage

Some stock footage was used in the news segments and the Nye Labs equipment, including the ROSE submarine video feed. Some of them were also used in a few Bill Nye the Science Guy TV show episodes before, during and after the game was released. Also, the stock footage provided by various people was credited in the game.
