Enough of interest happens throughout the game to compensate for the boring lead character (the interactions with other prisoners can be entertaining). The stealth gameplay may be too slow for some players, but the combat is satisfying enough when it happens to compensate for all that sneaking around. In other words, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena is a well-balanced, surprisingly entertaining game considering its source material.

Während der erste Teil ein klares Pflichtabenteuer für alle Actionfans ist, bleibt dem zweiten Teil eine solche Empfehlung versagt. Nicht etwa das mich die dünne Story gestört hätte. Auch nerven mich die gelegentlichen Clippingfehler oder die auf Dauer ermüdende monotone Stimme Vins keineswegs. Vielmehr geht dem Spiel nach einem spannenden Einstieg auf dem Planeten die Luft aus. Denn statt mit neuen Herausforderungen lähmen die Entwickler mit langweiligen Wegen und routiniert und einfallslos ablaufenden Kämpfen. Doch wer sich wie ich an der antiquierten KI nicht stört, wird auch mit Assault on Dark Athena ungefähr 12 Stunden seinen Spaß haben.

Though parts of the game are a bit rough around the edges, the fact that the game comes with a revamped version of the terrific Butcher Bay means fans should waste no time picking it up. It’s a killer package that executes gritty stealth-shooter with ease and style.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to get a screwdriver in a game than in Escape from Butcher Bay. In Riddick’s hands, even a simple screwdriver is a lethal weapon that you can use in melee attacks or bloody stealth kills. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the somewhat linear Butcher Bay as you navigate the various gangs, guards, and tunnels of the complex prison. You never achieve that moment where everyone starts panicking because they can’t find you and know you’re stalking them, but I still really enjoyed picking off the foul-mouthed boisterous guards one by one, even if I wanted them to fear me more. The Chronicles of Riddick games aren’t high art and they don’t break new ground, but they do have more refinement than your typical prison shiv. Being bad can be oh so much fun.
