After being disappointed with Deer Hunter after all of the hype from the PC release, I wasn't really expecting Deer Avenger to be much better. After all, it was a parody of a lackluster budget game. However, I was quite surprised by the game's ingenuity and solid humor. They cover it all, from the beginning of the game to the trophy room, even spoofing the wildlife support badges seen on Deer Hunter's box (mocking them with slogans like "Deer Against Venison Eaters", etc.). While I still wished I could roam the woods in first-person mode, at least Simon and Schuster made it clear in the beginning. The game was designed for laughs and not as an attempt to simulate the sport of hunting. . .which Deer Hunter simply does not do.

Just in case it sounds like I didn't like this game, rest assured-- I DIDN'T. It's really not so much of a game as a really mediocre parody. If I were Brian McCann (the late night writer for Conan O'Brien whose brainchild this game was), I would have never agreed to put my name on this title. If you are in the least intrigued by Deer Avenger, head to you local retailer and read the box cover-- it's at least as amusing as the game itself, and you can save yourself the $40. In all honesty, if I gave this game any score at all, I probably wouldn't be able to sleep at night.
