Macworld (Sep 01, 2002)
Medieval strategy games rarely have universal appeal, but Stronghold is a standout in the genre -- albeit one that has a few warts. With multiplayer gaming, free play, and a variety of play modes that allow you to hone your martial and administrative skills, there's a little something for everyone.
IGN (Aug 09, 2002)
There's a lot of game here and fans of the RTS genre should seriously consider taking this one off of store shelves. It won't be a disappointment.
Mac Gamer (2002)
Stronghold doesn't have what it takes to compete against classics like Age of Empires II or Starcraft, but offers plenty of grisly entertainment for anyone who enjoys medieval warfare, castle running, or tinkering with a buzzing economy. This game will have a place on my hard disk for a good while to come, and I think most gamers will feel the same way about it.

Aside from a slightly lame user-interface, virtually non-existent in-game tool tips, lackluster multiplayer options and a graphical glitch or 2, Stronghold is a fine game. Sim fans, builder lovers and RTS junkies all have a home in Stronghold. The game features a solid single-player mode, grand visuals, delightful audio and above all else, IT’S FUN!
macHOME (2002)
Stronghold is an exciting strategy game that balances new people-management elements with city building and battles. Bold graphics and fun units make up for its interface quirks and the confusion of knowing where you can build. Stronghold is as good as a trip back in time to the Middle Ages but without the uncomfortable clothes.
