Macintosh version

A disappointment for fans of the Sabrina TV series

The Good
I got this Sabrina the Teenage Witch game from the thrift store this year, and I think this is actually the first in a series of computer games featuring that titular character from Knowledge Adventure and Simon and Schuster. Installation on a Macintosh went well on a Power Mac G4 (MDD 2003) running Mac OS 9.2.2 and on a Macintosh Performa 6400 running Mac OS 8.6. This one does not overwrite your current version of QuickTime and Sound Manager depending on what Mac OS that you have.

The installation also went well on Windows, and was tested on an HP DX5150 SFF running Windows XP SP3, no problems found as with the Macintosh installation. The game features Melissa Joan Hart et al. as Sabrina and the other characters from the TV series for this game. The game flows nicely with the TV series, with all the elements from there.

The Bad
Now, onto the negatives: First, The wait times are longer than a usual CD-ROM from that period, depending on the speed of your computer. Again, I ran the game successfully on a Power Mac G4 (MDD 2003) running Mac OS 9.2.2 without any problem. Second, there is a lot of repetitiveness, so there is not much value for most people playing this game. Third, the hotspots stay the same every time you move between rooms. And finally, after you have completed the adventure, when you sign in with the same username after you first started the program, you cannot start from the beginning again!

The Bottom Line
If you are a fan of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, then I highly recommend it, but only for a short period of time. Others in the children's adventure game genre should avoid this and look into a Humongous Entertainment title such as Freddi Fish or Spy Fox. It might be a disappointment, but that's how it goes for Sabrina the Teenage Witch fans playing this game.
