Tactical Intervention is a multiplayer shooter similar to Counter-Strike. Players are either in the terrorist or counter-terrorist team and compete with the other team in team deathmatch or in the mission mode which is different for each map: either the counter-terrorists must rescue hostages (the location changes from round to round), disarm bombs or, on the "Highway" map, guard a VIP in a car race.

Competing in matches earns experience points (the ranking determines which items can be used) and in-game money which can be spent to rent better weapons or equipment (e.g. armor, attack dogs or riot shields) or to buy accessories (only optical changes) for the player character which can be used in the weapon loadout before each match. As the game is free-to-play, all those items can be rented or bought with real money. There are also packages available for purchase which give random items. Those bought weapons also may have positive team effects, e.g. reduced respawn time.
