Magical Brickout is a take on the classic Breakout concept with a twist. The player clears levels by bouncing a ball to destroy bricks, but here the ball starts in the middle of the screen and the bricks are arranged in a circular design surrounding the ball. Instead of controlling a paddle the player rotates the entire environment. That way, the ball generally bounces inwards and the player has to prevent the ball from leaving the screen on one of the sides.

The game has a fantasy theme and it is set in the magic land Wondaria where an evil wizard turns fairies into bricks and uses them to build a fortress. A remaining fairy needs to free them by breaking the bricks with an enchanted orb. The game consists of 48 levels based on eight themes. Next to regular levels there are boss levels. There is only a limited amount of balls per level, but it is not needed to destroy all bricks. Instead, only the blue fairy bricks need to be removed to complete a level.

Next to regular bricks there are indestructible ones. Green bricks provide bonuses such as a bonus multiplier, magic clean, multiball, speed reset, superball, and time slow. Meters on both sides of the screen can be filled to win additional balls or to keep the multiplier going. Negative, yellow bricks are a fast ball, halving the multiplier and lockup which prevents fairies from being freed from a short time. The red bricks are also dangerous and introduce an explosive brick, fire brick, fog brick, frost brick, regrowing brick, shatter brick, shrink ball, and zombie brick.
