Math Blaster for 1st Grade is an educational game for children aged five to seven that teaches maths based on the U.S. curriculum for the first grade. In this title the three characters Max Blaster, G.C. and Mel are at the Intergalactic Zoo where they want to help the animals to get some exercise because they have gotten lazy. There are six different activities based on maths with five difficulty levels where the characters earn trading cards. Once five of them have been collected, a game of Tickle Tag ensues with one of the animals. It is an arcade game much like Pac Man but with a more open layout where the dog Melon Blaster races in a maze to collect feathers and avoid zoo critters that want to tickle Melon.
Each activity has a mini-story. Riding Gnat Zapper for instance, Max and Mel practice addition and subtraction. This is done through a side-scrolling sequence where they need to avoid bugs while aiming the animal's tongue at the flying creatures with the correct answer on their sides. Other activities are telling time with Knock-a-Clock based on the habits of different creatures, measuring the food for the Woozerps and shooting them in a gallery game, collecting eggs with Eggdrop, sorting with Crazy Bugs and more. Player can also create custom number stories by combining numbers, shapes, letters and words freely.
Skills that are developed are addition and subtraction, counting, equalities, logic, measurement, money, sorting, story problems, and time telling. There is a treasure room where a star chart can be consulted to track the progress. Parents and teachers can track strengths and weaknesses, there is a ticker maker, and math puzzles can be printed for after-computer learning.
