Men of War: Condemned Heroes is a real-time strategy game set in World War II. The player takes control over Soviet penal battalions whose members were convicted criminals. Their practical status as cannon fodder is also reflected in the game's mission objectives: mostly suicide missions to open up the way for other troops. There are four campaigns which cover the beginning of the Eastern Front in 1942 in Volyn/Ukraine, Operation Bagration in Brest (1944) and the attacks on Dąbie/Altdamm in 1945.
The gameplay is unchanged compared to its predecessors. The player takes command over small troops which have to advance to the objectives. There is no base building or other reinforcements except equipment and ammo taken from enemies, including using stationary artillery or salvaging wrecks. Of course there are various tactical options available, e.g. the way to the objective is usually flexible and cover is important to avoid getting killed while advancing. Single characters and vehicles can be controlled directly.
The co-op option of Men of War: Vietnam was dropped in favor of competitive multiplayer: Capture the Flag and Victory Flag (conquering zones with infantry).
