Description
The Mensa Ultimate Challenge is a collection of puzzles, riddles, tests and advice intended to boost 'brainpower'. It is one of a series of similar titles which includes
Mensa Mindbenders and
Kids Mensa.
From the main menu there are five main options;
- Riddles: A selection of forty conundrums to puzzle the player. The riddle is posed and when the player has considered it they click on an on-screen key icon to reveal the answer.
- Puzzle Practice: When selected this reveals a menu showing twenty-five icons each of which represents a puzzle type. The puzzles are variations on sequences using letters numbers and symbols together with variations on 'magic square' puzzles that require basic maths. In some questions the player types in an answer while in others the click on an option or drag and drop tiles into position. There is also a key icon on screen which will give the correct answer and an explanation.
- Lucky Dip: This is a variation on Puzzle Practice but the questions are random.
- Fact File: Described as "The authentic MENSA guide to unleashing your unique potential" this option contains;
- The MENSA guide to Improving Your Mindpower. The six sections in this guide are Developing Learning Skills; The Art of Communication; Maximize Your Memory; Increase Your Creativity; Making Better Decisions; and Improve Your Reading Skills. Some sections consist entirely of reading matter while others contain reading matter and self assessment tests.
- Also present in this section are the credits for the game and details on joining MENSA
- Ultimate Challenge: The previous four options are arranged around the Ultimate Challenge which is the main option of this title. There are six challenges to play each of increasing difficulty. In level one the player has forty minutes to answer twenty questions, in level four they have fifty minutes for twenty-five questions and in level six they have an hour to answer thirty questions.
Within the time limit questions may be skipped and answered later and the tests can be aborted at any time with the player receiving a partial score. When reviewing their results the player has the option to revisit the questions they answered incorrectly and try again.
Some questions ask the player to type in their answer while others ask the player to either drag and drop tiles or click to select an answer from a range of options so both mouse and keyboard are needed to play this title. The game has optional music and plays in full screen mode only.
