MKM is a pretty amazing meld of fighting and platform jumping and is sure to please fans of MK and platform games alike.

Grosse daube ? Sympa ?

Fun and amusing as it is, the poor production quality means that this game can only really be appreciated by true Mortal Kombat devotees who love the video-nasty atmosphere but know what to expect in terms of graphics – not much! If this isn’t you, Mythologies will almost certainly be disappointing and there are several better presented new platformers available.

The game's perspective causes a few problems here and there. Shinnok's Bridge is a perfect example, as you're expected to make more than a few blind-faith jumps into the unknown in order to find a platform that is below the screen's line of sight. Also, the game is pretty short, relying on a set number of lives and continues to provide the game's extreme level of difficulty. This one is only for the hard-core MK fans who don't already own PlayStations.

More depth than most side-scrollers, but poor game-play balance. An ambitious concept, but then so was "Cop Rock." It's awkward and frustrating.

The Adventures of Ryu i framtiden?

Even with the RPG elements and FMV, the game is just no fun. Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero may have been a good idea on paper, but as a game it's terrible.

MK Mythologies: Sub Zero is a perfect example of what can happen when you sacrifice gameplay for license. Everything seems to be thrown together in a big pile of mindless re-hash, digitized graphics and horrible level design, all topped off with some blood and the Mortal Kombat name. The sad part is that the game will probably sell like hot-cakes anyway. Unless you're Mortal Kombat crazy, don't appreciate good videogames or are looking to punish your kids this holiday season, we recommend avoiding this atrocity.

The bottom line is that you always seem to be facing the wrong way, and it drove me up a wall. The designers would have done us all a big favor by just limiting the battles to one-on-one. There are other problems as well. The jumping controls are inexact and the collision detection is horrible. You'll go to perform your trademark uppercut and half the time it will pass through the guy like he's a freakin' ghost. Combine unforgiving stage designs (pillar traps) with those awkward controls, and it's a recipe for frustration. It's a shame because with a little quality control this would have been a terrific companion to the series.

Any good points to MK Mythologies? I suppose I should give Midway credit for trying something new. In a world where all the games released are either first person action or top down strategy, its good to see somebody try something else. While this doesn't make up for the obvious flaws of the game, it does open up the industry to a new genre. Let's hope the next people who try it do a little better job.

Did I mention the incredibly cheap, instant-kill traps? In general, this title lacks the polish you would expect from an established franchise. The instruction manual is useless, providing no clue on how to execute the special moves. Hell, I couldn't even figure out how to jump from a rope without plunging to my death! Mythologies should have been a fun, side-scrolling romp, but this poorly thought-out, half-hearted effort amounts to little more than a cautionary tale.
