With attention so sharply focused on Conker's M rating, it's pretty easy to lose sight of the fact that this is actually an astoundingly good game. Conker, unlike some previous Rare 3D titles, provides just one character, one mostly linear quest, and only one simple item to strive for : cash. Rare has repealed the longevity-through-repetition approach to gameplay in exchange for a constant flow of wildly diverse experiences. It's a brilliantly bizarre, insanely fun 3D-platformer extraordinaire, and a wonderfully ironic swan song for the N64.

Conker's Bad Fur Day is probably one of the best games ever, on any console or computer. I have little doubt that this will probably be the N64's victory lap before retirement, but what a way to go! I hope that other developers take notice of the efficiency and style that make this game great, so that ... oh, who am I kidding? Conker's Bad Fur Day is a %$!*ing great game, and anyone who doesn't like it can go %^&# a [email protected]!#.

If nothing else, Conker's Bad Fur Day moves us away from the old-fashioned Platonic ideals we usually see manifest in videogames, and that's a good thing. We shouldn't rely on our games to teach us our morals, and we shouldn't limit the scope of our entertainment in any medium to the narrow constraints of reinforcing what are often arbitrary and culturally bound notions of right and wrong, good and bad.

Overall, Conker's Bad Fur Day is an amazing experience on terms of gameplay, graphics, an immersive enviroment and loaded with humor. Each blend together in a manner that it's enough to compel you to storm England and force Rare to postpone production of its future projects for GameCube and burn the midnight oil for the sequel. Hopefully, Rare's latest addition to the N64 will be met with much success because this game clearly is a breakthrough, if at the very least, in a class by itself. At last, it would seem that someone finally realized that games aren't targeted just for kids and that titles which consist of mature themes aren't all laden with violence.

Conkerâs face does indeed deserve to be everywhere in the gaming media today, not only because it is a must-have Nintendo 64 title, but also because it is one of the best games the industry has ever seen. A smart, funny, and challenging salute to every type of game, Conkerâs Bad Fur Day is an essential. Donât miss it.

Bottom line -- a spectacularly creative, wonderfully satisfying 3D action-platformer that -- ass joke and bloody messes encapsulated -- shines with Nintendo's very best. A game that is likely to be cherished by Nintendo 64 owners and copied by developers for years to come.
If this is a sign of Rare games to come, sign me up.

So if you can handle the game, it is a must-play, must-own. One of Rareâs best. A great storyline. A great game all around. Lots of replay value too. Play it, or die.

Conker's Bad Fur Day is wonderful. While raunchy (at times to the point of stomach turning) and offensive to nearly anyone, you have to understand it's all in good fun. The humor, mixed with everything else this game has to offer, makes Conker's Bad Fur Day a must have, so long as you're over the age of 17.

GameSpot (Mar 01, 2001)
Conker's Bad Fur Day gives third-party publishers the green light to do whatever they like on the GameCube. The premise of the game is gimmicky, but after its sordid skin is peeled away, a true gem of a 3D platformer is revealed. The pacing is perfect, the gameplay is varied and predominantly tight, and technically, it has no match on the Nintendo 64. The main drawback is the game's relatively short length. It comes to an end rather quickly, and most will be able to finish it during a solid weekend of playing. While it lasts, Conker's Bad Fur Day is a wild ride well worth taking.

Gamer's Pulse (May 03, 2001)
Despite the heavy warning that it carries all over the box, donât be fooled into thinking that Conkerâs Bad Fur Day relies upon crude humor and gratuitous carnage as the main element of enjoyment. The controls are flawless, gameplay varied, sound detailed, visuals quite impressive - there is simply no sphere that BFD can be knocked in. It is a bit on the short side at a little over ten hours to completion for the average gamer, though a multi-player mode adds some incentive to play after the main adventure has been finished. And despite all of this, getting tanked and urinating on some flaming bats is entertaining in its own right. This is one of the last great N64 games; show Rare some love for a job well done and buy it?

Game Chronicles (Sep 11, 2001)
Conker's Bad Fur Day is likely to be one of the last must-have games for the Nintendo 64. Whether looking at the game from a purely technical standpoint or from that of an avid gamer, BFD is a marvel to behold. While some may find the game's humor crude and immature, hopefully this game's existence will encourage developers to create more mature themed games for the Big N's systems. I leave you with the following image; Big Breasted Sun Flower.

Personally, I would like to thank the people at Rare who had the nuts to approach Nintendo with the concept for Conker's Bad Fur Day. Something as good as Conker's always begins with a freak (or perhaps, in this case, a couple of freaks) and a great idea.

Nintendo Life (Apr 13, 2009)
Conkerâs Bad Fur Day came right at the end of Rareâs golden era at Nintendo; exceptionally well-written, incredibly crude and a pioneer of potty humour, the UK outfitâs last N64 effort was a true gem. The controls are fluid, the levels well-designed and it sits at a decent length of 8-10 hours. Full of moments that will stick out in your mind â none more so than the sing-along song with the Great Mighty Poo â this is a timeless classic that is well worth getting hold of.

Gamezilla (Apr 20, 2001)
While there is nothing especially original about any one thing in Conkerâs BFD, the elements are brought together better then in most games. Additionally, the whole concept of an action/adventure game targeted at a mature audience is an idea Iâve never seen tried before. Buy it, as long as you are age 17 or older. Conkerâs BFD is a hilarious adventure game backed up by a fun multiplayer option. I have one friend who is buying it after seeing the multiplayer action, and another who is buying an N64 system again just so he can get Conkerâs BFD. As long as the tasteless aspects of the game donât turn you off, you will not regret the purchase.

Gamervision (Mar 13, 2008)
Despite the controller issues, Conkerâs Bad Fur Day is definitely a game I could see myself wanting to spend a lot of time with. If you can get your hands on a copy (or even the used Xbox game, which canât cost very much at this point), go ahead and give it a go. In a generation where 3D platformers often failed horribly, Conker managed to be a fantastic game even with the limited hardware it was running on; for Nintendo 64, the thing is a technological marvel. Itâs too bad I missed out the first time around, but now that Iâve gotten a taste, Iâll totally be playing this again.

Gameplanet (Jun 09, 2001)
FOR WHAT WAS ORIGINALLY shown at the Tokyo Space World in 1997, Conkers Bad Fur Day has been long in the waiting and underwent one of the biggest changes a game could. Initially Rare decided that the world was ready for yet another "run around a cutesy land" collecting thousands of little pickups and then saving your cute squirrel girlfriend. With the unsuccessful launch of Donkey Kong 64 came a delay for what was known as Twelve Tales: Conker 64 and then the cancellation of it.

Cubed3 (Mar 24, 2006)
Rare created something of a masterpiece finale for the Nintendo 64, just before the system kicked the metaphorical bucket. The aim was to show the world that a title full of smutty jokes and a song about a giant excretion monster did not necessarily have to be a weak game. Executed to almost perfection, it is no wonder that this has been remade on the XBOX recently and it is highly pleasing to see it garnering the recognition it deserves this time round (even if on a competitorâs console).

So in conlusion Conkers Bfd is a great game, and who knows what might come next, Marios fuzzy mustache day, or maybe even Kirby's bad breath day.

Gaming Age (2000)
Rare has created a very unique game in a familiar package. Upon first glance a gamer might pass over this game thinking it's another of Rare's usual 3D platform adventures. After seeing the game in action for a few minutes that theory will be blown away. The game is extremely fun to play, the controls are awesome, and the replay value is enhanced thanks to the humorous nature of the quest. A slew of multiplayer mini-games are available to keep you busy when you have a bunch of friends over. I haven't spent a lot of time exploring these multiplayer options, but according to a couple of friends they offer up some amazing fun, especially "The Beach" level. Besides the few shortcomings listed above, Conker's Bad Fur Day represents a new era of adventure gaming. One can only imagine what Rare has in store for us next on the GameCube. Do yourself a favor and pick up this cartridge, as it truly is one of the last great N64 games that will be released.

Game Revolution (Mar 01, 2001)
Conker's Bad Fur Day is the kid's game that browsed the adult section and then loaded itself on Daddy's private stash. BFD has its crosshairs directly aimed at the college audience, and it works perfectly for the peeps who've grown up with Mario and are now looking for someone less dorky. That is, in between frat parties and other immoral activities.
Looking past the hype surrounding the first truly 'adult' Nintendo game, BFD makes you chuckle and drives you to keep playing. I would have liked some deeper action or at least a longer experience, but this is still certainly worth the investment. Now where did I put that Bloody Mary mix?

All Game Guide (2001)
Conker's Bad Fur Day is not for everyone. It has vulgarity, sexual innuendo, violence, and enough bodily excretions to make you reach for the Pepto-Bismol. Rare took a big risk in releasing an "M"-rated game that wasn't focused solely on violence, and it remains to be seen whether older players will take to a platform game starring a talking squirrel. To overlook this title would be unfortunate, as Bad Fur Day offers one of the most memorable adventures players are likely to experience on any platform.

Christ Centered Gamer / Christ Centered Game Reviews (Jun 01, 2005)
Conker's bad Fur Day is, without a slightest doubt, a great, offensive N64 title that showed the Nintendo can create mature rated games just like Sony or Microsoft. Nintendo has recently been trying to shed it 'Kiddie' image by releasing my offensive titles like the Resident Evil series and BMX XXX. Unlike BMX XXX, Conker is a game that parents will scorn.

GamesAreFun.com (GAF) (Apr 27, 2003)
Yes, Conkerâs Bad Fur Day does have more than its fair share of edgy humor. But just as the Mario games shouldnât be rated on being âkiddie,â Conkerâs should not be judged on being âadult.â Does the humor in BFD add to the atmosphere? Most definitely. But Rare never relies on the sophomoric humor to carry this title; they back it up with quality gameplay. And if that gameplay just happens to feature a squirrel with a full bladder chasing down a few fireballs, I certainly wonât complain.

Gamers Europe (Mar 25, 2002)
Why? Well because CFBD is just so damn funny that you can live through the annoyances, even if it is just to get to the next cut-scene because you know it's going to make you laugh. It's frustrating, an ugly looker, shallow, bloody expensive (ÂŁ60 for %ÂŁ$* sake!) and won't last long. But if you've got the cash to spare, want a week's worth of laughter, and don't mind annoying those lovely people at Electronics Boutique when you return the game then I whole heartedly recommend Conker's Bad Fur Day.

Game Critics (Mar 20, 2001)
While videogames in general need to advance themselves and expand the levels of electronic expression offered, I don't feel that just ANY step towards testing the limits of what's acceptable is necessarily a good one. This area is something like a minefield that needs to be tread carefully, and without making too many false steps in order to avoid discrediting the medium in general. While it does manage some bright spots of biting satire, Bad Fur Day mostly tests the limits for the sake of testing them, without making a real or significant statement of any kind except to raise its middle finger. I'm sure this game will amass an army of rabid followers who will soon fill my electronic mailbox, but I won't embrace or endorse excess unless it has good reason for existing. With the significant absence of a sophisticated and/or mature comedic sense, there's not much reason for having a copy of Bad Fur Day on my shelf.

The Video Game Critic (Mar 24, 2001)
The graphics and sound effects are top of the line for the N64, and the background music is near Disney quality. Conker also features a wide array of multiplayer minigames, including a racing game, a tank game, and a first person shooter. While these are a nice bonus, they won't hold your attention for long. Conker is definitely a trip, but I don't think we need any more games like this.
