There are two alternate gameplay levels that have Gabe climbing ladders (poorly done) and an actual mountain (pretty well done), but most of the time the player is just running and jumping 20 feet in the air through snow. Poor graphics and limited, below average music round out the short-lived experience.

Cliffhanger is a feeble attempt with a license. The graphics are very poor, even compared to other 8-bit games. The audio grates on your ears and the control is not even worth mentioning. The NES can do more that this. Cliffhanger comes off as a first generation game, but with more softs like this, it'll be the last generation. This game needs an overhaul to be even somewhat palatable. Very poor.

Cliffhanger may have made for an entertaining movie, but its NES incarnate amounts to nothing else than a horrible way to waste some time. Avoid this game at all costs -- unless you need something to throw off of a cliff.

The fact is, Cliffhanger: The Game is on par with an Acclaim/LJN abomination, a festering pustule of a game that doesn’t even attempt to distinguish itself.
