The sound effects are strong and satisfying. The bosses are huge and nicely drawn, an example of the outstanding graphics. The controls have a tight and fantastic feel to help get you through the intelligently designed, gorgeous levels. All together, this makes for a great gaming package that is one of the highlights of the NES library.

Each character’s unique abilities, and how the level/boss design force you to use said abilities seamlessly, really make Little Samson special, but they’re not the only reason you should play this game. Multiple branching paths making for great replay value, bright and colorful graphics, a whopping seventeen levels, transcendent music (each character has their own theme music) – for crying out loud, even the pacing is terrific. No level ever feels too long. Above all else, Little Samson is truly a joy to play. I can’t remember the last time I had such a blast playing an NES game, and that is a compliment of the highest order.
Classic-games.net (Apr 10, 2021)
Little Samson is the best NES game you have never heard of. Some of the NES’ highest production values and gameplay create a game that is almost a classic. This is not a case of unfounded hype; Little Samson is the real deal.
Retro Game Reviews (Nov 18, 2015)
Little Samson is one of the best action-platformers on the NES with its smooth gameplay, imaginative level design and awesome boss battles. The ability to switch between characters on the fly is a great idea and the whole package is incredibly well executed and warrants multiple play-throughs.
Retro Game Age (Jan 21, 2013)
As a late generation title Little Samson represents the absolute best of what is possible on the NES. Very few games of that era can match the level of detail poured into every background and sprite of this game. The amount of animation in the sprites is nearly unmatched and there are even a few rotational effects thrown in a la Ufouria and Mr. Gimmick. One odd quirk of the graphics is the disconnect between the happy go lucky normal enemies and the sinister bosses but whatever. This undoubtedly resides in the NES top 10 graphically. The music does not rise to the same standard as the graphics. There are very few level specific tunes; instead each character has their own theme that becomes grating by the end of the game. While decent it becomes repetitive very quickly.
NES Center (2001)
Little Samson is a very good NES game that barely falls short of excellence. At times, it can be tricky to review these older titles because they're so different than most of what is currently released. When it comes to determining if a game is "too hard" or "just tough enough, " I tend to ask myself if my teenage self would look at this as a challenge worth dedicating himself to
or if he'd wind up getting frustrated and resort to his Game Genie. For 90 percent of my recent experience with this game, things rested squarely in the former category, but that true final dungeon was firmly entrenched in the "cheat to win" zone. There can be a fine line between fun and frustration, and that castle tips to the wrong side of it. Still, the overall product is really good. And since you have to choose the tougher difficulty level to even play that castle, the last-minute stumble doesn't completely mar the final product.

NES Player (2001)
Is Little Samson worth trouble and expense of tracking down? You’ll certainly get more miles out of it than other rare titles like Operation Secret Storm. It’s a fun game that may be worth your time and money to track down, but as a collector’s item, you definitely can’t go wrong.

The great thing about this game is that the characters have special abilities and that you can switch from one to the next. That adds an element of strategy along with the action.
Play Time (Jan, 1993)
