Well I did enjoy playing T2 on the NES. It's nothing new or innovative, in fact, it's for the most part just a fairly straightforward platform shoot/beat 'em up, but a reasonably enjoyable one at that. Graphically the game is reminiscent of Star Wars, which is also reviewed this issue, with some very high quality sprites and excellent animation throughout. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sound, which includes some great tunes but, sadly, no version of the T2 title track. While the beat em up fare becomes a tad repetitive, you find yourself wanting to get a bit further with each game, which is no bad thing. Don't expect whistles and bells from T2 because you could be disappointed to find that that's not what is on offer. Just approach it as a no-nonsense, slightly inaccurate (Arnie was in the nude at the start of the film, but he's fully clothed In the game!) movie tie-in and you'll get a fair amount of pleasure from it.

The attention to detail here is nice, with both the pause/level start screens seen in the red hue of the Terminator’s perspective, and upon death the screen distorts with TV “snow.” Fans of the movie will get more mileage out of the experience for sure, but it’s not without its positive merits.

Ugh. I just want to be the Terminator and shoot people and protect John Connor and be awesome. No bomb gathering, no “better not hit a gate” mentality. If Terminator 2 just ripped off Contra, it’d be a worthy complement to the film instead of a humdinger of a suck.

With a story that follows the movie's plot, T2 is a fun game to watch. However the play quality is not as good as it could have been because the collision counter is very inaccurate. If you can overcome this handicap, however, then try this game.

In the next stage you're supposed to blow up Cyberdyne Systems by collecting and depositing barrels. I toiled through this stage for an hour before finally giving up. Had a Terminator been watching me review this excruciatingly poor game, I'd imagine he'd say "I know why you cry, but it's something I can never do."
