If you are a fan of puzzle games, you need to seriously consider adding this game to your collection, not necessarily because it is the best puzzle game on the NES, but because it is one of the most creative and it is very fun.
The Video Game Critic (Nov 05, 2008)
Yoshi isn't much to look at and the music is only fair, but a game like this doesn't require a lot of flare. Several skill levels and speed variations are available. There's a two-player head-to-head mode, but it's flawed. Instead of competing for score, the winner is the player who lasts longest, which does not encourage competitive play. Even so, Yoshi is a charming little title that should appeal to fun-loving gamers of all ages.

NES Times (Jul 19, 2009)
So overall Yoshi winds up being one of the weakest entries in Nintendo's puzzle line. It's not a totally bad game, though; there is some enjoyment to be found if you give it a try and it's a nice title for younger players, plus it does have a certain charm to it. Nevertheless its one-dimensional gameplay reduces it to lower-tier status especially in the face of better Mario-themed puzzlers like Dr. Mario, Wario's Woods or even Yoshi's Cookie. Yoshi tries, but just doesn't succeed.
Wizard Dojo (Feb 28, 2017)
There is some fun to be had with Yoshi, and the music is simple but enjoyable. It’s just nothing too special, which is a shame, because a game bearing the name of one of Nintendo’s most iconic characters could have been so much more.

Only on the later levels with faster speeds does it get difficult to keep switching the tiles around, and by then, you’ve either moved back to Tetris or Super Mario World, depending on the nature of your craving. As for poor Yoshi, he would have to suffer through one more puzzle game before acquiring the masterpiece that is Yoshi’s Island. But as the saying goes, you can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs.
Yoshi is a good twist on the Tetris theme, but the game play of the NES version leaves much to be desired.
Of the many Tetris-type puzzle games on the market, Yoshi is one of the weaker entries. Despite its originality within the genre, it's a surprisingly dull game.
Video Chums (Sep 29, 2014)
Although anyone can pick up and play Yoshi, there isn't much of a game to play. Yoshi disappoints with its very basic modes and lack of bells and whistles. If you want to chill and play a puzzle game then this is acceptable, but there are many better games to choose from.

Was erhalten wir?
That's about all there is to say about Yoshi. The graphics are expectedly simple, and the choice of three musical tunes to play to aren't adequate. If I sound like a disgruntled gamer, that's because I am. I don't like games that spend more time in the marketing department than in the programming lab, and Yoshi certainly falls into that category.
Game mode A has the player match pairs until they lose, and mode B tasks the player to clear the screen to move on to the next stage. However, most will not want to bother exploring the options since the puzzle action is too dull.
