But perhaps what stands out most of all is the brilliant story that unravels before your eyes. From start to finish it encapsulates you and never lets go. The game also boasts one of the finest end sequences to a game I've seen in a long while. Have you ever had one of those situations where you sit staring at the end credits in awe of what you've just experienced? The Time Machine certainly had that effect on me.

No, chyba, że do lektury pierwowzoru literackiego...

This is a completely non-threatening program. There is no violence, per se, and the challenges are quite fascinating. The New Adventures of the Time Machine is a terrific challenge that treats the eyes and ears.

And zest's an admirable quality in a product, albeit one that plays second fiddle to gameplay as far as consumers give a rat's patootie. While the New Adventures of the Time Machine sallies forth intent on delighting global audiences, it doesn't bother to break any new ground, or even cover the old ground exceptionally well to boot. Be that as it may, the title's novel setting, thoughtful storyline, and awesome decor smooth out most of the warts. Sci-fi buffs can't go too far astray with this one, but PC owners who can't tell Captain Kirk from Yoda should stay light years away.

Time Machine takes the beauty of Wells’ story, ditching everything that made the story great — save the time-travel itself — and creating a title that inevitably falls far short of the greatness on which the original story is based. The puzzles are infuriating at many times, the lack of information provided about the objects you find makes the gameplay very trying, and the fly-by camera angles are a hindrance when trying to fight or run away. The striking graphics and music save Time Machine from the fate it probably deserves due to the gameplay and interface problems. It was said that the adventure genre is dead, or close to death, and I am very glad to see that some developers are still willing to take the risk, but Cryo’s latest offering comes up lacking and leaving me praying for another title that has the potential of reviving my first and still favorite genre.

Time Machine bietet leider in jeder Hinsicht Standardkost: mittelprächtige Rätsel, annehmbare Grafik, mittelmäßige Steuerung.

Basing adventure games on classic works is not a bad idea - Alice in Wonderland, Ulysses and the Golden Fleece, and Below the Root are just a few examples of older games that used their source material well. But The New Adventures of the Time Machine falls into another category, along with Cryo's Ring and Byron Preiss Multimedia's The Martian Chronicles. They are bad games inspired by great works of art.

In order to be honest - I tormented myself (over weeks) with this game and was often facing a frustrated surrender. For me the help of a walkthrough was necessary, in order to master the action parts, what was no fun. Lack in graphics and occasional crashes back to the "blue screen" could have been endured. But here the demands of an adventure gamer were easily ignored. Under the coat of the Legends-label unsuspecting adventure lovers are enticed to purchase an action game that will surely leave frustration for those, expecting an adventure in the well-known Cryo style. You can't find here the freedom of investigation or mental quarreling with a puzzle. One is driven from one "Game Over" to the next, must weather through a multiplicity of deadly fights and even must sacrifice life points when solving puzzles.
I never did finish The New Adventures of the Time Machine. Not by choice, though. I did manage to work my way through at least 98% of the game and then, right before the climatic sequence, it froze. Working from six different saves, it still froze in the same scene every time. Frantic pleas to Cryo went unanswered. After it, it was Cryo who had supplied me with a final gold master, meaning the game was ready to go to duplication for the retail stores. Somehow I have a feeling that I will never see the beautiful closing cinematic (especially since I have used an invisible spell to permanently erase this game from my hard drive). In fact, the next time a temporal wave comes my way, I'll be sure to neglect to swallow my black salt crystals.
