Cover star

The cover art features New Jersey Devils' goalie Martin Brodeur, being the first time a goalie was found on an EA Sports' NHL game since NHL 97 (John Vanbiesbrouck), and the first time a goalie was found in an NHL-licensed game at all since NHL 2K6 (Marty Turco).

As with NHL 13, fans were able to vote for their desired cover star prior to the game's release. The pool was comprised of two players from each NHL team in an elimination system. Martin Brodeur "met" another goalie in the finals of the vote, Sergei Bobrovsky from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
