Picross 3D's twist on the traditional picture crossword takes a bit of work to learn, but it's terrific fun.

Although it may lack a few of the frills of its predecessor, Picross 3D feels like the more polished game. The animations that play after solving a puzzle are fun, the amount of puzzles is staggering, and the process of solving the puzzles is a blast. Taking Picross into the third dimension ended up being a fantastic idea, and the execution shines.

Even with the interface issues, Picross 3D manages to outshine many other budget titles. The puzzle creation mode is easy to use, and sharing puzzles via the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi connection is simple and fun. With all the different puzzles and the easy learning curve, any puzzle-playing fan will love Picross 3D.

Despite a disappointing shift in visual style, Picross 3D is another enjoyable and habit-forming puzzle game that is perfect for the DS. It's very satisfying to reveal each stage's hidden object and you'll find yourself returning to many puzzles in order to get a perfect rating. If you're looking for your next DS addiction, this is a good pick.

A disappointing presentation doesn't mar the inherent brain-boggling fun you find in this exhaustive collection of puzzles. Picross 3D is still a great game with tight gameplay that makes excellent use of the DS's features. It provides a wonderful progression into a new and interesting dynamic for the core game that will delight existing Picross fans, as well as usher in a whole wave of converts.

With hundreds of puzzles prepackaged into the software and hundreds more available for download, Picross 3D is hours of entertaining fun for all ages and puzzle enthusiasts everywhere. I highly recommend this game for fans of the first or puzzle fans that have yet to try this extremely addictive game.

I remember enjoying the original Picross back in 2007, mostly as a quick diversion to my daily tasks. It was the perfect game to pick up and knock out a puzzle in 5 minutes before getting back to work. Picross 3D performs the exact same function and the added bonus of the user created puzzles extends the life of the title even further. Even with the lackluster graphics, Picross 3D is a worthy successor to the original title. If you have any interest in logic-based puzzle games, Picross 3D is the perfect game to pull out on the subway during the morning commute.

The only potential upset for those fond of Picross DS is that there are no nods to other Nintendo properties, so that means no more Mario-themed objects to be carefully unearthed. That's the smallest of minor quibbles, though, and it's silly to be anything other than delighted by the sheer glut of perplexing content available here. Picross 3D, by being just different enough in its execution, quite neatly opts to co-exist with its predecessor instead of trying to replace it.

It’s about time. Picross didn’t get the following it deserved. It’s great to see someone give it another chance and reinvent it into something even more compelling. It’s got all the addictive puzzle solving that made the first game so awesome. The switch to 3D made things far more interesting; rather than relying on a grid, you’ve got to rotate the entire puzzle and search it piece by piece to figure everything out. The puzzles are well-designed in terms of complexity. Unfortunately, a few of the fundamental mechanics didn’t get the same kind of treatment. The camera is occasionally horrendous, and the additional controls could have been made far easier to handle. Despite such flaws, however, Picross 3D is an excellent puzzle game and easily one of the best on the DS. Picross is back. And this time, it’s personal.

Picross 3D was basically Nintendo's way of taking its popular (at least in Japan) picross genre of gaming and giving it that cubist edge. This game is great for puzzle and math enthusiasts alike, even if the controls might give the wrist muscles some serious wear and tear within minutes. I found this one in a bargain bin, and you probably can track a copy down in the same place. Why not add picross to your love list?

Nintendo Life (Mar 17, 2010)
There's no denying that Picross 3D is a diverting and addictive game, but at the same time it fails to surpass its two-dimensional predecessor. The leap to 3D has certainly added an extra challenge, but it has also made the rules more complicated, and at the same time diluted the purity of Picross DS's comparatively direct logical problems. Nevertheless, the game offers hours of content for those willing to persevere, and for anyone who has already played Picross DS to death, Picross 3D will provide an engaging new challenge.
