You can't beat a good kart-style racing game and this one makes a fun alternative to the ever-popular Mario Kart.

Ultimately, this may be the definitive version of this game. It may not sport the flashy visuals of its console counterparts, but it sports much of the same great gameplay plus it fits in your pocket and can be bought for nearly half the price of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

Worth Playing (Mar 09, 2010)
Will Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing dethrone Mario Kart DS as the de facto kart racing title for the Nintendo DS? No. The multiplayer alone isn't as wide-reaching, with some strange limitations in place for most of the modes. Despite these shortcomings, the game is still fantastic. With great controls, gorgeous graphics, awesome sound, and a perfect sense of speed, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is a very exciting kart racer and the closest that anyone has come to matching Mario Kart on a portable Nintendo system. Sega fans should immediately pick up this title, as should racing fans in general. With a game this good, don't be surprised if you have it in regular rotation for quite some time.

Impulse Gamer (Mar, 2010)
In conclusion, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is a thoroughly enjoyable racing title for the DS that proves that Nintendo does not hold the monopoly on kart games. With great graphics, fun gameplay and more importantly perfect tracks and vehicles, this is what DS gaming is all about and this game highlights just that. It’s also great to see the various SEGA characters from Sonic to Alex Kidd and even the chick from Space Channel 5, perfectly cast indeed. If you’re after a game that can be played over and over again, than this is it… check it out!

While not the Mario Kart beater many may have hoped for, Sega All-Stars Racing is still a stunningly good racer that's both well designed and fun to play; definitely worth buying.

Nintendo Life (Mar 11, 2010)
As with the Wii version, Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing may not do anything especially new in the character racing genre but it handles well, looks good and offers stacks of reasons to return. Whether multi- or single-player there’s plenty to recommend All-Stars Racing to handheld racing fans, and it even perhaps narrowly eclipses the already-excellent Wii version.

GameSpot (Feb 26, 2010)
Although the core of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is obviously pulled straight out of Mario Kart, this wacky racer can stand on its own four wheels. The tight controls and excellent track design ensure that head-to-head competition is always exciting, but it's so fun just to play around with these karts that it’s easy to lose hours climbing the online leaderboards in Time Trial mode. All-Star Racing may not push the genre forward in any meaningful way, but it builds so well on established themes that it doesn't even matter.

IGN (Feb 24, 2010)
Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing may not have a whole lot in the gameplay department that it can call its own, but Sumo Digital took what worked and built a SEGA-themed experience that captures what makes the company's games so memorable. This racer is surprisingly deep and robust, and even with its unoriginal design it's a great time no matter which version you get. The Nintendo DS version is a great complement to the console design because it shares similarities while retaining its own unique feel.

Spazio Games (Mar 01, 2010)

Obviously, people will compare this game to Mario Kart DS and it's obvious that Sega followed Nintendo's formula almost step for step. But there's certainly nothing wrong with that, especially when it's a quality effort like Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Great for fans, casual players and kids (in other words, everyone), it's a well made, cool and value packed kart racer that's worth the cash.

NintendoWorldReport (Mar 11, 2010)
Sure, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing may not be everything gamers have expected from it, but the end result is hardly worth bickering over. The core gameplay mechanics are set in stone and the addition of a set of achievements really helps propel the game from the mediocre range of racers. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is a fun, entertaining, and enjoyable title that’s likely to be overlooked by Mario Kart DS, but for those looking for a game that plays similarly to Nintendo’s own creation, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is the way to go.

This pint-sized racer is so playable and packed with fan-service that Sega fans will want to hop on board as soon as possible - but it doesn’t quite match Mario Kart when it comes to raw enjoyment and multiplayer brilliance.

Sumo Digital have managed to craft a 'Mascot Racer' that aside from numerous pitstops, manages to be a worthy alternative to Nintendo’s own high profile effort. Limited history showing and bland track creation let the team down, but what’s left is still a considerable option for both gamers new to SEGA lore and history buffs alike.
