While not entirely original, Dead 'n' Furious is an untapped genre on the DS and while it's not a visual feast it certainly good where it counts: gameplay. Unfortunately, with only one copy of the game we didn't get an opportunity to try out the two player side of things but as far as a single player experience goes, Dead 'n' Furious is an entertaining, gun firing romp like nothing else you've seen on the DS. Order your copy now.

Endlich wieder eine Ballerina, die sofort zur Sache kommt. Keine lästigen Texte und Movies, keine riesigen Welten oder Sidequests, einfach schlichter, ehrlicher Splatterspaß wie an einem Lightgun-Automaten in der Spielhalle. Okay, die Grafik ist nicht gerade preisverdächtig, es gibt längst nicht so viele Gegnertypen wie in einem House of the Dead und die Untoten marschieren alle recht ähnlich auf euch zu. Aber trotz alledem hat mir Dead'n'Furious von der ersten Sekunde an Spaß bereitet und vermochte es darüber hinaus, mich stundenlang an den DS zu fesseln. Das liegt erstens an der präzisen Steuerung, den aufrüstbaren Waffen und dem motivierend ansteigenden Schwierigkeitsgrad. Zum anderen sorgt der unglaublich dichte Ambient-Soundtrack für Gänsehaut. Also: Gehirn aus - DS an und viel Spaß beim Ballern!

Dead ‘N’ Furious has been released with very little fanfare and as a result it has come as something of a pleasant surprise. We’ve already seen how light gun games can work on the DS – Namco’s Point Blank proved the console is capable of imitating the ‘point and shoot’ gameplay to a satisfactory degree – but Dead ‘N’ Furious is a much more successful demonstration. The biggest compliment you could possibly bestow on the game is that if it had the ‘House of the Dead’ brand attached to it, fans of the series certainly wouldn’t be disappointed.

While some people may think "Touch The Dead" is too simple to be fun, I say "Yay!" to simplicity. There may not be too much to the game, but when you're slaying the hordes of the undead, how much complexity do you need? This is the most fun I've had with my DS in quite a while. Highly Recommended.

Touch The Dead manages to overcome its shortfalls simply by being utterly tongue-in-cheek and letting you get lost in the fun of killing zombies in true HotD fashion. Even with the typos, the generally bad graphics and the sub-par music...there's something satisfying about clicking on everything that moves and trying to kill it as quickly as possible. In this, the game fully succeeds. The trouble may be finding a copy, as many outlets simply did not get the game, or had limited supply. If you enjoyed any of the House of the Dead games, Touch The Dead is a worthwhile purchase.

In some ways, it’s unfair to compare Touch the Dead to the arcade classic, House of the Dead. But when you pay homage to a great franchise, you’re bound to get comparisons, and Touch the Dead does fall a little short in those lofty expectations. Putting comparisons aside, Touch the Dead is a rare shooter for the Nintendo DS, and does a nice job in delivering a fine experience of the on-rails shooting genre to a portable system. The average gamer may want to give it a rental first, but it’s a must for any on-rails shooting fan.

The fevered gunplay is sharply executed and each new stage continues to throw new curves at the player (such as zombies removing and tossing their heads at you), but these challenges are almost too hard. The life you have at the outset of play must be preserved throughout the entire game. Once your health is depleted, it's game over. Progressing through the game relies on the player's ability to maintain a base of health between each level. This becomes quite the feat when you go against a boss that tears you to shreds. This is a game that every zombie fanatic could love, but only the hardest of hardcore gamers can excel at.

I think that this game makes for a great sequel. This one has some major problems that need to be fixed in the sound, graphics, and control departments, but the idea behind it all is pretty solid, and makes for a really fun gaming experience. I definitely wouldn't mind picking up a massively revamped and reworked Touch the Dead 2 in the near future. It's a strange thing, because by all accounts this game should be reviewed as being horrible. But I can't honestly do that because games should be fun, and this one is. What I would hope for this title is for a sequel with improved graphics, sound, and control. If this one is just the first and spawns an entertaining series, then I can forgive the pilot's mishaps. So, here's hoping!

Touch the Dead wins points for attempting to bring us a proper on-rails shooter to the portable that can seemingly do anything. Due to low-budget issues, there are some areas which were not able to be improved on in the final product; if some company like Capcom decided to take the reins, no doubt it would've had a lot more icing, an important additive for such games. The lack of high-score records is puzzling, and the slow-paced nature of getting around holds this title back. But dispatching countless undead beings is still fun, and right now it's still a big fad.

Touch the Dead isn't flawless, though it does have a place in the DS's library and gives developers another genre to refine on the system. The only major thing that will keep players out is the difficulty level. Touch the Dead is not an impossible shooter, though it is difficult. Still, if hard is something you look for in games, or you find yourself dumping quarters into light gun games, Touch the Dead is worth a look.

So Touch the Dead lacks any sort of originality, but it definitely has a place in the Nintendo DS line-up. It's a straight-forward, fun, intense action game that does a decent job of what it sets out to do...even if that's just to steal the House of the Dead idea before Sega decides to port it officially itself.

Warum schlecht selbst machen, wenn man auch gut kopieren kann? Nicht nur chinesische Wirtschaftsfunktionäre denken das, sondern auch die Entwickler von Dream On. Offensichtlich sind die Jungs grosse SEGA-Liebhaber - SEGA Kenner wissen, dass dies auch der Name der Demo CDs für Dreamcast war. Um es kurz zu machen: Touch the Dead ist ein dreister Clone der House of the Dead Reihe von SEGA. Ob beim Namen, Spielkonzept, Gegnerdesign oder Gewaltdarstellung - bei fast allem wurde nahezu eins zu eins übernommen. Einzig und allein das Zielen per Stylus und das manuelle Waffenwechseln samt Brechstange sind neu. Leider reicht kein Part des Spieldesigns an die Qualitäten der House of the Dead Reihe heran, gut ist der Titel aber dennoch geworden, zudem er als einziger Lightgunshooter mit erwachsenem Setting auf dem DS konkurrenzlos ist. Alle LightgunShooter und Zombiefans dürfen zuschlagen.

I do have a massive problem with this game, however. There are only four levels (Donkey Kong had four flipping stages and that was released 26 years ago!) and the difficulty curve is all over the place. I breezed through the first level before hitting a two-hour brick wall on Level 2. This stage finds you negotiating an underground sewer system where your character annoyingly sprints into scratching monsters, climbs a ladder where strange biting creatures rain down so fast it's impossible not to lose a life without reloading using a sly finger, takes on an entire section of zombies in a computer room and then has to topple a massive boss that demonstrates Jason Voorhees' levels of stamina. And I had to do all this in one sitting; no checkpoints, no save states, just a one-way ticket to repeat the lengthy process. Simply dead furious longevity, if you ask me.

The paper-thin story of an escaping prison inmate certainly doesn't help matters, nor does the poorly implemented difficulty balancing. Points for cool concept here, but this is a brief distraction more than a fun-filled night with the living dead.

While Touch the Dead is fun for a short while, it quickly becomes frustrating due to the cumbersome reloading controls and the designer’s cheap attempts to make the game more difficult. Additionally the game simply isn’t scary, either because the graphics are so bad, the player’s familiarity with the genre, or a combination of both. Touch the Dead is maybe worth a rental, but I would strongly urge even horror fans to purchase a worthier title. We can hope that someday a developer will take Touch the Dead’s shooter interface (minus the reloading) and implement it in a better way.

Overall, Touch the Dead earns a slight recommendation. The game still runs out of gas way too soon once it's been beaten, with few extras to keep coming back to. But at least it finishes what it intended to do without tripping all over gimmicks or stupidity in enemy AI, and stays relentless on its attack. Fans of House of the Dead, zombie blasters and more mature games in general won't have any trouble touching this Dead. Just make sure to keep the improper touching to a minimum -- you don't want to be completely freaky like these guys. It is still a prison, after all.

Unless you are desperate for some portable zombie blasting, I would recommend keeping this title on the rental list. The game, while repetitive and short, can keep you entertained through the adventure and therefore is worth checking out. The clumsy reload and other mechanics are frustrating, but not enough to make you give up on touching these dead. A lame story, ugly graphics, and lack luster audio all deter the appeal of this game. Hopefully for future games in this genre for the DS, we will see a better effort in production value.

The replay value of Touch the Dead is limited. Players will either get frustrated with the checkpoints or they’ll be able to sit down and finish this in one day if they put focus their time in completing it. If you are a gamer that only has 20 minute intervals for your Nintendo DS, avoid Touch the Dead since it will send you in a frenzy when you die.

What then is my conclusion? This game has the potential to last a long time, but only the few who are truly interested in this type of game will have the patience to see through that potential. For the masses, this game is repetitive and has very little to commend itself for play over long periods of time. Therefore, I’d say that, unless you’re a diehard fan of this type of game, you would be better off playing something else. However, Touch the Dead shows that this genre does have some potential on the DS, so I hope that someday somebody will take that potential and flesh it out into a somewhat deeper game that is more worthy of widespread attention.

Touch the Dead is just a few hours long, though you can choose to play through it cooperatively, which is perhaps the most contrived part of the game because both players will see from the exact same perspective. There are some very good reasons that light gun games have fallen out of favor. The decline in popularity of arcades and the need for a specialized piece of hardware for home versions are certainly two big ones, but the most significant one is perhaps that the formula just got worn out. Touch the Dead's folly lies in the fact that it banks on this worn-out formula and does a passionless job of doing it. Switching the action from pulling a trigger to tapping a stylus doesn't make up for that folly.

That’s the trouble with Touch the Dead. I never felt like I was being rewarded for my efforts, or even challenged for that matter. After you get the hang of things in the first level, everything becomes routine. Even the boss-fights are cakewalk encounters barely worth mentioning. Touch the Dead really needs some sort of new gimmick, a semblance of a story, or more variety in enemies. At the very least, let me maim the undead in some interesting ways. Touch the Dead is such a tragedy, because one thing that killing zombies should never be, is boring.

Graphically bland, the game still manages to create some tension through its rudimentary presentation with some clever pacing. However, a lacklustre co-op mode (which bizarrely / cheaply sees you both viewing the game from the same perspective) does little to flesh out a sparse package which, once cleared in three or four hours, has very little else to offer.

If you're craving a light gun game that offers up exciting twists and turns as you make your way through halls filled with the undead, do yourself a favor and pick up House of the Dead III for the original Xbox. Touch the Dead just doesn't have what it takes to make it as an entertaining experience - even in multiplayer (yes, you can play with a friend if you feel the need to drag someone along for the ride). The firing mechanic is supremely functional, but everything else that remains within is not and that's what takes this game for being for the supreme light gun gamer and turns it into a no brainer.

It's not that there's nothing to love about Touch the Dead; I can't say I didn't enjoy tapping the screen and watching zombie legs and arms and heads fly off. Heck, it's just nice to see a little gore on the DS for a change. The problem is that the game's misbegotten structure gets in the way of whatever little fun could be gleaned from the simple mindless violence. Rail shooters are thought of as the simplest and most basic type of game, and not without good reason. All the developer needs to do is include an interesting path for the player to walk down and a lot of fun monsters to shoot. It's too bad that by over-complicating everything, Touch the Dead gets this simple formula so very wrong.

Touch the Dead had a lot of promise, but after playing the game and seeing how it turned out, I was surprised it was developed well into the life of the Nintendo DS. This wasn’t some launch title fumbling with new technology, it was a game that could work by example and give us a thrilling experience of gunning down zombies with a simple tap of the screen. The biggest limiter to the game though is the developer’s lack of imagination, something that is evident in its plot but shines loudly through its gameplay as well. With a small stable of easy to dispatch enemies, bosses that hardly pose a challenge, and gun balance that heavily favors a strong weapon without giving it enough drawbacks to make its use tactical, Touch the Dead fails to deliver on the promise behind its concept.

Apesar de simples, "Touch the Dead" deve agradar aos órfãos de "games de pistola", pois o gênero se encontra em extinção e, portanto, com poucas alternativas. Dead'N'Furious n'a pas grand-chose pour lui si ce n'est de vouloir singer Resident Evil tout en se faisant passer pour un FPS, ce qu'il n'est pas. Clone raté d'un Gun Survivor de bas étage, le titre de Dream Studios n'essaie même pas de convaincre à quelque niveau que ce soit. On s'y ennuie de bout en bout et à moins d'être suffisamment masochiste pour dépenser ses deniers à tort et à travers, autant attendre Dementium : The Ward sur la même machine.

Touch the Dead is a mixed bag: I like where the developers were going, but the end result is horrible. A simple remap of reloading to the L button could have improved the title tenfold, and a less random feeling damage system could have lead the game to greatness. I could really see Dream On Studio's 1337 Engine finding popularity in the DS lightgun genre, but it really needs a better execution to shine.

For the first two stages I was thinking "wow - this game could get interesting if I ever get out of this boring prison". Unfortunately, that never happened, as I was doomed to eternally traverse its endless empty rooms and hallways. Is this the best they could come up with? It's not even scary! All you do is blast the same two zombies over and over again - a fat one and a skinny one. The one exception is the zombie that throws his head at you (please kids, don't try this at home). There are supposed to be a few alternate weapons besides the pistol, but I could never find any. Touch of the Dead had the potential to be fun, but it falters badly due to an astounding lack of creativity.
