Overall, I have to say that I am very pleased with Transformers: Decepticons. For a licensed game, I think the developers have done a very good job of creating a unique game experience that lets you experience the source material in two completely different ways. With an innovative multiplayer function, unique story mode, and good technical specs, Transformers: Decepticons looks like it may be so good it's evil.

Transformers on DS is a good if unremarkable robot game. The gameplay is enjoyable though a touch too repetitive, but the game does have likeable characters and solid production values. There isn’t much different between both versions of the game, so like Pokemon, you’re getting 99.9% of the gameplay with either version.

All in all, this game may not be a pillar of innovation or creativity, but it is fun. The combat is straightforward and the single player campaign is short, but fans will definitely have a good time here. The game is structured very well for a handheld platform and there’s enough replayability to keep you coming back for a while. Pick your side and jump into the battle!
Transformers: Decepticons is a very entertaining mid-summer treat for DS fans everywhere, especially for those who tire of always having to save the day. The game has a couple of problems and a few frustrating moments, but overall, the game defies the 11th commandment, "All movie games must be terrible."

This game has so many features. It gives you over 30 vehicles to unlock, sub-missions, the Allspark Wars on Wi-Fi, and a solid multiplayer mode. However, the game is extremely short, seemingly rushed, not that nice to look at, and finding a glitch or five is not hard in the least. In my eyes, this game delivers what it promises and then some. It has Transformers, big giant robots beating the circuits out of each other and blasting new craters into Earth. Transformers DS has so many good ideas, and although the presentation lets it down significantly, what lies under the surface is a good game recommended for fans of the movie and 3rd person shooters.
As it stands, Transformers: Decepticons feels exactly like what it is – a handheld multi-platform game that was rushed out to meet the deadline the film’s release date. It certainly taps into the nostalgia Transformers brings out in fans, but so does the movie itself, which is vastly more entertaining.

In the end, if you've long wanted to pull off transformations the way you imagine them, Autobots and Decepticons will let you do just that. Just be prepared with some patience and the desire for a challenge.

Much like the machines themselves, Transformers ends up being more than the sum of its parts. It's a surprisingly enjoyable outing from Activision and developer Vicarious Visions, and one that's greatly superior to the sub-standard Transformers PSP game. Time to choose your side and enter the war.

It would seem that my lack of faith was for naught -- Transformers: Decepticons ended up being a good game. Vicarious Visions does some great work on the DS, so I suppose that I shouldn't have been too worried. Sure, it's a bit simplistic, but the gameplay is solid and the odd online mode is strangely addicting.
t has been a long time since I really enjoyed playing through a game on my DS and Transformers has shown me that portable gaming can be fun in small doses. Anyone concerned that this is a quick cash-in can leave those assumptions at the door as the game is actually a solid addition to anyone’s portable library. Even though some of the missions can grow tedious the online portion more than makes up for it and regardless of which version you decide to play there is plenty here to keep you occupied for quite a while. In a world where movie tie-in games generally suck it is nice to find one of the few that do the franchise proud. If you own a DS I highly recommend giving this game a shot; especially if you are a fan of the license.

It's definitely fun to romp around a city as a robot, to zoom around as a car, and to fly around as a plane...with the ability to switch it up on the fly. The addition of extensive voice over gives both games' a good amount of emotion. At the very least, the DS version gets these right. But when it comes to fighting as the robot or the vehicle, Transformers DS falls flat. The action and its technique really needs a bit of a tune-up, especially in the "defense" department, and the glitches that pop up from time to time are really hard to ignore. It's ultimately a better experience on the DS than Traveller's Tales games are on the console, but that doesn't entirely excuse the problems.

Si ce Transformers sur DS a le mérite d'offrir deux campagnes bien distinctes, l'une du côté des Autobots et l'autre du côté des Decepticons, la faible durée de vie du jeu nous fait regretter que les deux versions n'aient pas été rassemblées dans une seule cartouche histoire de ne pas obliger le joueur à se procurer les deux pour profiter de l'intégralité du contenu. Malgré tout, le soft reste plutôt satisfaisant et convainc davantage que ses homologues sur consoles de salon.

As you can see, the differences between the two versions of the game are mostly cosmetic. Some people will enjoy the Decepticons version more because you gain experience faster and don't have to complete as many stealth missions, although that's really a matter of personal taste. In either case, the games look nice, the voice acting is marvelous, and transforming into vehicles and beating up on other robots is fun. It's just too bad Activision chose to publish two individual versions instead of a single game. The dodgy camera and targeting may be annoying, but all the filler missions and the overall short length of the story suck a lot of the joy out of being a Transformer.

At the end of the day, Decepticons comes out feeling half-baked. It looks great, it sounds great, but it doesn’t play great. The Wi-Fi will keep you distracted for a while, but considering the hefty full price for admission of what is only one of two, Decepticons is of dubious value. It’s simply too bad that this much bally-hooed series had to be wasted on a movie licensed game.

While I have serious issues with this game's graphics and gameplay, the numerous little innovations that are at its core force me to give it a stay of execution. While I think both versions of Transformers could have been great with more work, I wasn't expecting much from it in the first place, so I remain pleasantly surprised.

In general, Transformers for the DS is decent considering the scope of which the developers had to work, but still falls short in a few areas. It feels like it tried for much, but failed to achieve much (the dull, nearly pointless side missions are evidence of this). The differences between don't really add up to much, either. The storyline you follow is different, of course, as is your allegiance in the Allspark Wars, but aside from that, everything is pretty much the same as far as gameplay is concerned, and it feels a little irritating to have two different sides of one story. The frustrating and clumsy controls often get in the way of enjoyable gameplay as well, but the element of obtaining vehicles and fighting in the Allspark wars does add its own charm and fun. As a movie-to-game title, it passes muster, but that's the best that can be said.

If you went into this expecting more than just a movie game, you will be disappointed. You should’ve learned by now. If you went into this with low expectations, you’ll be impressed for the first hour or so with the game, but then you’ll realize it’s just the same stuff all over again. The story and voice acting are very good, but it’s a shame that nothing else in this game could be of such high quality. A really big shame.

It's impressive enough to see a developer trying to attempt a sandbox-style game on the DS. It's doubly impressive that they're using the Transformers license (albeit the Bayformers one) to do so. Unfortunately, the time might not be ripe for such a game on such limited hardware, and sacrificing detail or splitting the experience into two halves, Autobots and Decepticons, seems the only way to see it done. This is a game specifically for fans, and even then I'd mention specifically fans of the new Transformers... or Peter Cullen. Did I mention he does brilliant voiceover work for the game? No? It sold me.

Like its Autobots kin, Transformers: Decepticons is limited by the capabilities of the DS hardware, which hinders the console-like gameplay experience the developers were hoping to create.

Ultimately, there isn’t much of a difference between the two versions of the game to warrant buying each of them at the 30 dollar price point. With the exception of the Decepticons getting experience for destroying inanimate objects, the missions have the same structure between versions as are the generic vehicle forms. Unless you’re really big on playing as a particular character, you’re going to get the same uninspiring missions, dodgy controls and great voice work whichever version you choose. Transformers: Autobots and Transformers: Decepticons represent the best of the current crop of Transformers video games, but they’re still just a weak movie tie-in.

The only thing that could have saved this game from being dull and unoriginal would be a cameo appearance of a naked Megan Fox. Sadly we weren't even rewarded with a clothed Megan Fox.

The broken controls of shooting, fighting and strafing coupled with monotonous "Destroy 'X' amount of enemies" missions and ridiculous enemy respawns makes Transformers: Decepticons nothing more than a chore. Actually, chores aren't all that bad, as they usually leave a feeling of accomplishment afterwards and sometimes five bucks from Mom if she's in a good mood. But this game doesn't leave you with anything except a hole in your wallet where money used to be, a DS case drink coaster and an unhealthy mixture of anger and boredom. If you've got to have a Transformers fix then the console versions offer up a slightly more solid but still lackluster experience. Or you could watch the movie again. Or the old cartoons on DVD. Or bust out your old Transformers action figures. Whatever else you feel you have to do, just avoid this poor DS offering.
