Hills and Rivers Remain
Description
Hills and Rivers Remain is a fast-paced real-time strategy game in which two or more medieval warlords attempt to eliminate each other's armies. Each map is based around a number of cities and the roads that connect them. Whichever army controls a given village can use it to conscript additional troops, which can then be marched to neighboring cities (not unlike Galcon, except that troop movement is restricted to predefined routes). Later in the game, assorted special buildings are introduced which provide bonuses to the warlord who controls them. A variety of treasures provide single-use temporary bonuses, which adds an additional dimension of tactical depth.
In addition to the main storyline (in which the player controls a young warlord named Alan who begins to doubt his motivations for fighting), the game features a free-play mode. Additional free-play maps are available as (usually free) downloadable content.
