Phantomas Tales #4: Severin Sewers is a 2D platform game starring the android thief Phantomas from the 1986 game of the same name. It also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the character and the franchise. This time he is going after the gold of a sect, the acolytes of the Vehjstiahows. The game consists of four levels and after completing one a password is provided to continue playing from that point next time.
Each level consists of several single-screen rooms linked both horizontally and vertically using the flip-screen mechanic to form a single, large level with some freedom for exploration. To complete a level Phantomas needs to collect fifteen coins in any order. He starts with 199 health and it is drained through collisions with enemies or hazard such as spikes. Every now and then a battery pick-up can be found to restore some energy. Health is not transferred to a new level. The game is set in old Metry city and its sewers. There are several sections where a large part of the screen is dark and Phantomas can only see in a short circle radius around him. As he has no means to attack careful navigation is required to complete the platforming and avoid enemies. He uses two types of jumps, a long one and a high one.
