Pillars of Eternity is a role-playing game crowd funded as a spiritual successor to the Infinity Engine RPGs like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. It uses an isometric viewpoint with 2D, hand-drawn backgrounds. The gameplay is party-based with a real-time-with-pause combat system.
The game is set in a new fantasy world called Eora where you are a newcomer in the Eastern Reach area. After surviving to a mystical Storm, it appears you are a 'Watcher', with the ability to read/hear the memories of the souls. Your main quest is to learn why your powers have been awaken. During the journey players are able to recruit up to five companions, each with their own motivations. The eleven classes (fighter, paladin, ranger, wizard, druid, monk, priest, rogue, chanter and cipher) and mechanics are reminiscent of Dungeons & Dragons, but are entirely new.
