A shooter that brings shooters back where they belong: wherever you want them.

Fast becoming my favorite online shooter of choice, Garden Warfare 2 is lovable, preposterous, and completely rampageous. Never thought I’d say this about an EA game, but it’s everything a modern premium experience should be.

Honestly if you loved, or even liked the first Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, then you’ll have a blast with Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2. Yeah, it’s a full-priced, online multiplayer game (which can be a tough sell), but it’s one that’s jam-packed with content from a developer that’s been typically generous with delivering new updates and support.

New classes, new modes, an open-world central game hub, and plenty of love for the solo player. Garden Warfare 2 is the game that just keeps on giving. It looks great, sounds brilliant, and is so damn funny. What’s more, the game plays perfectly. For shooter fans, there really is only one reason for not picking up Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, and that is if you like your shooters serious. There is nothing serious here, and that is part of the appeal. If you need seriousness and angst in your shooter, then maybe look elsewhere. Otherwise, grab Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 now and have some fun.

The love and care that was poured into this title is obvious, and translates into a terrifically entertaining experience that I encourage everybody to try out. Play with your friends, your parents, your kids; anybody who has ever enjoyed a video game should have a blast with PvZ Garden Warfare 2. In fact, I think I'm going to go load up Rose and turn some more zombies into goats right now.

Although it might not be dragging people away from Call of Duty or the giants of the genre, PvZ: Garden Warfare 2 has a great atmosphere and some really enjoyable moments. If you've ever wanted to do battle as a piece of corn, sunflower or superhero zombie, this might be the only game to fill that niche.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 brings a lot of variety and fun to the gaming table. Multiplayer options and single player experiences aren’t in short supply with this sequel. It isn’t a perfect game, but there is enough stupid fun packed into it to make it worth your time.

PlayStation 4PSX Extreme (Feb 22, 2016)
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a rock-‘em-sock-‘em blast and a half, a colorful and always entertaining game that keeps you playing, hour after hour. The super solid gameplay and expansive variety is really what makes it so great, because such merits greatly increase longevity. I have my reservations about the card system, the balancing isn't quite right (I imagine the devs will have to make some character tweaks as time goes on), and yes, the multiplayer experience is clearly better than the single-player one. But the latter is still functional and fun and in the end, GW2 offers a wonderfully engaging multiplayer experience that is never dull and rarely irksome in any way. As I said in the intro, if you're looking for an excellent pick-up-and-play title that will keep you occupied for hours and puts a smile on your face, it's right here.

PlayStation 4IGN (Feb 23, 2016)
Under its attractively bright and cartoony art style, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 has a great amount of modes and customization options to enjoy, whether alone against the AI or with online allies and enemies. The interesting abilities options of the six new character classes gave me something to sink my teeth into, and the customization options are a great reward for playing outside my comfort zone. The sheer amount of enjoyment in this full garden will keep me in the war for some time to come.

This oddball shooter sequel piles on more of everything from the first game, which is exactly what that game needed.

There are a number of difficulty levels in Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 that allow gamers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the game. Casual gamers who were familiar with the original tower defense game would be fine starting out on the Easy level, while those gamers with a bit more experience would probably find the higher difficulties more to their liking. The Welcome Mat mode is another aspect that enables younger (or more casual) gamers to be gently introduced to the multiplayer modes and I can see this idea being used in other games in future. The colourful visuals, fun and varied characters, the range of play modes and the collection aspect with the game packs will continue to keep gamers of all ages entertained for hours.

PlayStation 4Hardcore Gamer Magazine (Feb 18, 2016)
PopCap Games paid close attention to the criticisms of the original game and ultimately crafted a worthy sequel. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 doesn’t change much, instead building on the successful gameplay of the original. In many ways it feels like an expansion, but one that comes packed to the brim with new content. The six new characters are fun and the twelve new maps are well designed. PopCap’s desire to appease the solo players is admirable, but there just isn’t enough appeal or long-lasting content here. It also doesn’t help that Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is online-only, which means you won’t even be able to access the solo mode without logging into EA’s servers. Still, it’s the co-op and multiplayer you buy a Garden Warfare game for, and what Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 offers finally lives up to the promise of the original game. It is indeed bigger, badder, bigger.

PlayStation 4PlayStation Universe (Feb 19, 2016)
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 has the potential to be a sleeper hit. The multiplayer is a major focal point and the classes have a lot of variety and complexity ready for every level of player. The repetitiveness aside, there’s enough here for everyone to have a good time, especially when friends are involved.

PlayStation 4God is a Geek (Feb 23, 2016)
Popcap has improved upon the template they laid out with Garden Warfare, fleshing out the sequel with an array of things with which you can wile away your time. It’s excellent family friendly fun but genuinely great to play for all ages. Get it, play it with your little ones, and play it on your own. You’ll love it.

PlayStation 4Push Square (Feb 26, 2016)
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 improves upon its evergreen predecessor by expanding the scope of the title with single player content and new classes and modes. Popcap has responded to the criticisms pointed at the original release well, and while this isn't a revolution by any stretch, the format has been precisely pruned for shear joy.

PlayStation 4Giant Bomb (Feb 26, 2016)
With its less-than-full-price and short list of features, the first Garden Warfare felt like EA wasn't willing to risk much on the odd idea of turning a cutesy mobile free-to-play tower defense game into a console online shooter. It feels like a little piece of cosmic justice that while the Medal of Honor reboot failed to make any inroads with that audience, Garden Warfare somehow became a runaway success that warranted a full-priced, fully featured sequel. While a potential third Garden Warfare will need to do more than simply pile on additional plants and modes to justify itself, this quirky shooter's second installment ought to stay green for a good long while to come.

Xbox One411mania.com (Feb 24, 2016)
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 introduces a lot more bang for your buck. If you have some younger family to play with, or friends to jump into multiplayer with, Ops will be able to entertain you for months as you keep unlocking characters and items. If you’re itching for a new shooter, or even a more humorous shooter, GW2 may be right up your alley.

PlayStation 4GameSpot (Feb 18, 2016)
With more generous pacing and worthwhile single-player content, Garden Warfare 2 would have been a truly outstanding game, but even without those things, it's a robust shooter with an astounding level of mechanical diversity that all but guarantees you'll encounter something new every round you play. And of course, its endearingly ridiculous presentation remains true to the series roots, further proving shooters don't have to be gray and gritty to offer a rewarding experience.
