The Game Hoard (May 16, 2020)
A Plague Tale: Innocence’s emotional narrative is a riveting adventure from start to finish that expertly balances desperation and perseverance. It is a story that places its young protagonists in dire situations and asks them to do some grim deeds to survive, but it is not a plot so mired in darkness that it depresses the player. Instead, it’s a game about the struggle to push on despite all that the world can throw at you, the player’s role in the narrative well conceived as they need to guide Amicia and Hugo around lethal dangers and resort to extreme measures to help them survive. You know the game won’t shy away from depicting the bleakness of this plague and its effects on people, but the moments of hope and humanity found throughout are what make this a truly moving and marvelous work of interactive fiction.

A Plague Tale: Innocence proves that feisty young women are the new heroes of single player narrative adventures, and Amicia can proudly stand alongside Aloy and Senua. Asobo Studios have knocked it out of the park with a compelling story, superb graphics, and excellent music. Loved it.

A Plague Tale: Innocence doesn’t nail everything, but it still manages to pull off the things it absolutely needed to succeed. For every clunky stealth section or awkward animation, there’s a heartfelt interaction between Amicia and Hugo. It’s a story about the inevitable end of all things and how tragedy makes people long for a time before innocence is stripped away. Amicia didn’t ask to become Hugo’s guardian--that’s just the way life panned out. Much as she would like to shield him from the brutality of their circumstances, it’s not possible if they want to survive. Innocence is akin to fire; neither lasts forever and, eventually, every flame fizzles out. However, if we stick with the people we love, it’ll burn for as long as we need it to.

Video Chums (May 14, 2019)
If you're in the market for a consistently immersive tale with gameplay that's filled with genuine tension then A Plague Tale: Innocence is a must-play game. Just be prepared for a few aspects to regularly take you out of the otherwise engaging adventure.
Game Informer Magazine (May 17, 2019)
A Plague Tale is a double tragedy. On one hand, Amicia and Hugo’s tear-filled journey through rural France is marked by adversity, but the bigger misfortune is how this powerful story of sibling love is soured by simple puzzles and clunky stealth mechanics. A Plague Tale is a forgettable game wrapped around a memorable adventure.
GameZone (May 20, 2019)
Despite a troublesome companion that can sometimes bog this stealth title down, A Plague Tale: Innocence is still a very interesting, unique, and haunting tale. It's one that will likely get overlooked due to not being an AAA game but it's one that is worth giving the time of day when it's hitting the right notes.
IGN (May 13, 2019)
A Plague Tale: Innocence’s story of two orphans surviving in a world ravaged by the Black Death is compelling and the stealth gameplay that runs through it is fine-tuned, but the rat-infested world looks more dangerous than it actually is. Everything from the alchemy abilities to the layout of levels feels a bit too guided and the prevalence of crafting materials removes the need to make decisions about how you want to get past your enemies. The story stands out as a result, but there’s not a lot of freedom to experiment or consequences for reckless decisions.

Its pace is slightly too uneven, but A Plague Tale: Innocence has flashes of potential
Area Jugones (May 14, 2019)
