Dragon Quest Builders could have been just a Dragon Quest based skin of Minecraft, but instead manages to be something of an evolution. The JRPG features add direction and focus, while the Dragon Quest setting brings charm and personality. Dragon Quest Builders is a game that is simply as big as the player wants it to be, and is an essential purchase for both fans of Minecraft and Dragon Quest.

It's great that yet another awesome Dragon Quest spin-off is now available for PlayStation 4. I'm still waiting for a traditional Dragon Quest RPG and I hope it won't be too long down the road but for now, I'll continue to sink hours into this masterpiece!

It is a blank canvas for creative people while also having an objective for people like me that need that extra incentive in their games. Whether you are a fan of Dragon Quest, a connoisseur of building games, or someone that is new to both; it is hard to resist the charm of Dragon Quest Builders.
My biggest complaint against Minecraft is the lack of a deep story. Don’t get me started on the lack of gameplay in Minecraft Story Mode. Dragon Quest Builders merges story telling with the Minecraft concept. It does it quite well too. I really enjoyed playing Dragon Quest Builders on the PS4. If I had to put a brand new price on Dragon Quest Builders I would say this crafting role playing video game is worth thirty dollars.

Though it has some flaws, Dragon Quest Builders shows how a good story mode can really be implemented in this building genre. The boss battles are mostly fun (with a few exceptions, such as the second boss), quests make your buildings have meaning and a plot, although simple, really makes the game stand out when compared to other titles. A few small fixes to combat and the building camera, along with MULTIPLAYER, could really make this game, or a future sequel, stand out.

It's astonishing in regards to presentation and appearance but those gorgeous stylized visuals and orchestrated music tracks can't do much to cover the mediocre back-and-forth item farming that the game uses as its core crutch. As I always say, don't get me wrong as I thought this game is not only well above average and wonderfully constructed, but... the mundane structured tedium and endless monotony of building ad-nauseam is a real buzzkill merely but two hours in. Maybe I'm stupid for not expecting this much building in a game called "Builders".
