Slant (Nov 10, 2015)
It’s a bit weird to say Fallout 4 is operating under the principle that less is more, especially since its representation of Boston is dotted with hundreds of hours of things to do. But Bethesda more or less leaves the revolution to the Commonwealth residents and the literal fine-tuning to the players (by way of customization features), and doesn’t do much more than upgrade the graphics (those radiation storms are as beautiful as they are deadly), declutter the skill tree, and throw in the ability to wear Power Armor. But, hey, if traveling through Bethesda’s version of Boston for 60 hours has taught me anything, it’s that the little things are what matter.
3D Juegos (Nov 09, 2015)
IGN UK (Nov 09, 2015)
The world, exploration, crafting, atmosphere, and story of Fallout 4 are all key parts of this hugely successful sandbox role-playing game. Great new reasons to obsessively gather and hoard relics of happier times, strong companions, and sympathetic villains driving tough decisions make it an adventure I’ll definitely replay and revisit. Even the technical shakiness that crops up here and there can’t even begin to slow down its momentum.
The Jimquisition (Nov 09, 2015)
Fallout 4 is something special. Something special indeed.
Vandal Online (Nov 09, 2015)
GameSpot (Nov 09, 2015)
When you put the controller down, you think about the friend you betrayed to benefit another, the shifting tide of an incredible battle, or the moment you opened a drawer and found someone's discarded effects, making you wonder how they felt before the bombs fell. In moments like these, Fallout 4 can be an intoxicating experience. You're often forced to sacrifice something--a relationship, a lucrative opportunity, or your health--to make gains elsewhere. And the deeper down the rabbit hole you go, the more you wonder: what if I chose a different path? You second guess yourself, not just because you had other options, but because you aren't sure if you did the right thing. The fact that your decisions stick with you after walking away from the game is a testament to the great storytelling on hand. Fallout 4 is an argument for substance over style, and an excellent addition to the revered open-world series.
Game Revolution (Nov 09, 2015)
FALLOUT 4 is a roaring response to criticism that the series has ignored its qualities as a shooter in favor of its deeper and stronger RPG roots. Nearly every design change in FALLOUT 4 poises the game as a more streamlined modern shooter with high production value across the truly open-world Commonwealth wasteland. The introduction of settlements, newly designed power armor, and deeper crafting evolve the FALLOUT franchise for the better. This occasionally comes at the cost of storytelling, however, with a plot based on stringently polarizing factions as well as diminished interaction with characters in general. But despite these missteps, FALLOUT 4 will only improve with time, assuredly with the assistance of the community and user-created mods, and soundly reclaims the franchise as a forward-thinking series in the industry today.
The Games Cabin (Dec 16, 2015)
Fallout 4 is a stellar RPG experience, there are no two ways about it. Even if it may be a little rough around the edges from a technical standpoint, the game more than compensates with a rich open world ripe for exploration and a thought-provoking narrative. While some frustrating design decisions may create a bit of a learning curve for newcomers, those who are persistent will find a deeply enjoyable and rewarding game. For Fallout fans looking for another grand adventure to sink their teeth into, Fallout 4 offers a refined but not revolutionary experience. However, when it’s this good, that just may well be enough.
RPG Site (Nov 08, 2015)
The biggest compliment I can give is that after so many hours I'm going to wrap up this review and head right on back to the Wasteland - it's just unfortunate that what could have been an absolutely perfect experience is bought down a peg or two by performance and visual problems. With all that said this still comes heartily recommended, and is a strong contender for the best RPG of the year.
Push Square (Nov 09, 2015)
Fallout 4 is a masterclass in open world design. Consistently engrossing and absolutely stuffed with intricacies, it's a title that'll keep you enthralled for hours at a time as you gradually unravel its desolate yet hopeful post-apocalyptic portrayal of Boston. Although it's let down by some disappointing frame rate issues, it's not enough to detract from what's otherwise one of the most atmospheric and beautifully brutal games on the PS4. Significantly improved combat, a constant wealth of gameplay options, and a heavy emphasis on player choice combine to create an adventure that's truly memorable.

This role-playing game is everything that players loved about Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas brought to current-generation consoles. Aside from an expanded crafting system that finally gives players good reason to pick up some of the random stuff littering the wasteland (you'll actually find use for the ceramic in old toilets and the plastic in disposable cutlery), a slightly modified character progression system that places more focus on the popular "perk" abilities, and the larger role given to the game's Iron Man-like power armor, Fallout 4 is very similar to its predecessors. It doesn't even look all that much better, despite the leap to a new generation of console hardware. Long story short, Fallout 4 will be a delight for anyone simply looking for more of what they loved about the last couple of Fallout games but perhaps a smidgeon disappointing for players hoping for a game that significantly evolves the experience.
RPGamer (Nov 09, 2015)
Fallout 4 just feels safe, even when trying new things. The addition of a voiced main character limits the depth of choice too much to be worth the payoff. The warring factions you have to choose from force you down a path that offers no good middle ground to say "screw it, I don't want to support any of you." They all have different ideologies, but the outcome for each is just too similar. As such, the main storyline overcomplicates itself into irrelevance instead of becoming a complex web of intrigue like other games in the series have offered. If all you are looking for is more Fallout, with tons of areas to explore and lots of side quests to complete, there is plenty of that here, but be warned that they are not the same deep, entertaining quests offered by the past two games.
Giant Bomb (Nov 10, 2015)
The occasionally extreme performance issues found in the console versions of Fallout 4 make those versions more difficult to recommend than their PC counterpart.
Sharkberg (Dec 08, 2015)
Fallout 4 isn’t a terrible game, but it’s nowhere near the Game of the Year material some sites are hyping it up to be. Its most direct competitor this year is Witcher 3, which does everything Fallout does better, even if it lacks the town building element and dollar-store Donkey Kongs. It’s not as good as New Vegas, and is functionally 2008’s Fallout 3 with a fresh coat of paint. If you absolutely loved Fallout 3, there’s plenty to like here, but I was hoping that seven years later we might see a little more improvement than this. In the meantime, while I don’t expect the game to change in any major way, hopefully Bethesda will at least deal with some bugs.
