„Thief“ ist nach „Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” das zweite PlayStation 4-Spiel, das sowohl spielerisch als auch grafisch zu überzeugen weiß. Gerade in Bezug auf die Spielatmosphäre und die Herausforderungen ist das Spiel eine echte Bereicherung für das Angebot auf der PlayStation 4. Wir hoffen, dass wir euch etwas den Mund wässrig gemacht und gleichzeitig nicht all zu viel verraten haben, denn „Thief“ ist den Kauf wert. Einzig die Steuerung hat kleine Macken und diejenigen, die bereits die ersten drei Teile kennen, könnten etwas von der Geschichte enttäuscht sein. Wir werden uns jetzt auf jeden Fall wieder auf den nächsten nächtlichen Raubzug begeben.

Thief is a fun and beautiful game that is slightly held back by last generation gameplay. This is too be expected when the game was developed for the PS3 and Xbox 360 also. The game is definitely worth a play in-spite of this fact.

Thief isn’t terrible, it’s just not as good as other games, so in a way I want to say leave Thief for a while; come back to it when it’s on sale, wait for it to be a steal.

Thief is one of those games that you want to love for nostalgia’s sake. Unfortunately there are enough issues that it ultimately does not live up to its predecessors. Between shaky cameras, bad lip syncing, and a mediocre story, there is just not enough to love.

Thief has some strong stealth mechanics going for it, and getting away unseen with a big haul of loot can be an enormous challenge, but doesn’t always put that to good use. Between the hit-or-miss missions is an extremely annoying city hub map and a weak story full of bland characters, and Garrett himself isn’t as sure-footed as a master thief ought to be. Ignoring the story and cherrypicking the best side missions is the best way to approach it.

The concept of stealing is fun, but an entire game based on it doesn’t seem to spark any excitement. There might be some moments where combat was necessary, but with just that, it's arduous to continue the quest. The City is created to form a maze-like jungle full of darkness where it's difficult to know where you are going. The side map is useless considering that it takes about 20-30 seconds to load on the PS4, which does not contribute to the sense of fluidity. Graphics are rich and the architectural point of it is breathtaking. Garret looks and feels like a deadly assassin, but it takes more than great art to rocket a game into success. In retrospect, Thief is not a terrible game considering that it's the fourth installment of the series, but maybe with a stronger, and different story, along with some action involved, this game could have potential. I feel like it could be so much more than what it is now. The missions were quite exciting but exciting can only take the game so far.

Whether you are new to the series or cut your teeth on Thief's particular brand of stealth when it was still novel, I'd wager your feelings will waver as often as mine did. The Thief-franchise-inspired Dishonored waves the stealth flag far more confidently than this reboot does. Garrett is not yet on his way out, but he's been shown the door.

Thief hat seine Momente. Aber es hat vor allem seine Strecken, seine Story, seine Linearität, seine Ladezeiten, seine Beschränktheiten, seine Inkonsequenzen, seine Steuerung, seine KI, seine Einbahnstraßen, seine Überflüssigkeiten und seine Leblosigkeit. Manchmal bekommt man eine Ahnung, was mit mehr Mut, Kreativität und Hingabe möglich gewesen wäre. Eidos Montreal hat auf den ersten Blick viele klassische Elemente der Stealth-Action eingebaut, so dass man stellenweise solide unterhalten wird. Aber auf den zweiten Blick gibt es eine Fülle an Drehbuchmurks und vor allem Designschnitzern, die man einfach nicht verzeihen kann, weil sie entweder für Langeweile sorgen oder die Glaubwürdigkeit der Spielwelt zerstören.

Il est facile de conclure en osant balancer que Thief n'est plus que l'ombre de lui-même. D'une telle licence, on attendait beaucoup, à commencer par un environnement ouvert offrant moult chemins possibles aux voleurs avisés. Las, ce reboot du roi de l’infiltration se paie un level design d'un dirigisme absolu, bardé de murs invisibles, et une architecture de la ville et de certaines missions qui leur font perdre toute vraisemblance. Le tout associé à une réalisation passable manquant de finition et à un hub central qui donne des cauchemars. On garde toutefois en tête quelques séquences plutôt sympas, qui permettent au jeu de taper la note moyenne, de justesse.

The story of Thief is underwhelming, and the rest of the game feels like a Dishonored wannabe. Which is a shame considering how beloved this franchise is for some people. It’s not a total loss, but it’s not especially fun.
