When it comes down to it, this is a game that anyone should buy. The Yakuza titles are timeless, and the Kiwami titles are beginning to prove this. It doesn’t matter if they are played now or in ten years, a great story and amazing content with tight controls will remain fantastic regardless of the time that it played in. The actual only problem with this series, at the moment, is that it is coming out in such rapid fire fashion that it is hard to keep up with, as there is not only not enough time in the day to play it all, but there isn’t enough time in the year to enjoy it all. Thank you, Sega, for doing this, but you might want to slow down a little, and give us time to breath between releases.

Way Too Many Games (Sep 03, 2018)
Yakuza Kiwami 2 is indeed more of the same, but when more of the same means a well-written lengthy story, cinema-quality voice acting, satisfying combat, plus tons of sidequests and minigames, is there any reason to complain? This is one of my favorite Yakuza games so far, fixing some technical issues from Yakuza 6 while introducing more features and smile-inducing fanservice. Kamurocho is back, and it’s as enjoyable as ever! This time around, you can even punch a tiger in the face. You read it right!

Overall, Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a great recreation of the original title. The core narrative is kept intact and the new translations add to the greater experience. Additional mini-games make for a great way to waste time and Majima’s scenario, while new, didn’t feel like an unwelcome addition. For those who are returning or veterans of the series, they’ll have more to explore and more to do and discover with the new additions. And for new players who are just getting their hands on this classic? They'll be able to experience the story of Yakuza 2 in a new and more accessible way.

Fans of Kiryu's crazy adventures will love Yakuza Kiwami 2 as it's full of over-the-top action and ridiculous scenarios. Even with its somewhat disappointing combat and story, it's a must-have for anyone who loves action games.

In some respects Kiwami 2 is a better game than Yakuza 6 but that’s almost strictly related to the battle system. Most of the other ideas in the game are recycled from past games or there is a slight reduction in production quality over Yakuza 0 or 6. Still, Kiwami 2 is definitely better than Kiwami 1 and if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll pick it up of course.

In the end Yakuza 2 was one of my favorite games, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a faithful remake and thanks to the visual updates, less loading, and additional content is the best way to currently experience the game and I highly recommend it especially to newer fans who might’ve come into the series more recently with Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami.
