A mysterious spy, Brigitte Bleu, has offered the evil General Plastro an anti-plastrification serum, which would enable his Tan Army to stay in the real world without turning into solidified chunks of plastic (and with the war against the Green Nation). It's up to Sarge and his crew to stop them. Sarge's Heroes 2 is classic third-person Army men shooter action, offering 17 missions with new environments-such as a refrigerator and a pool table-along with new weapons and power-ups, like a radio to call in and air strike.

That said, Sarge's Heroes 2 achieves a nice balance of defend, rescue, destroy and platform/puzzle missions, and it equips you with a huge arsenal to complete them. We just don't think its worth your hard-earned money.

Meanwhile, 3DO keeps turning out Army Men games, and so far the jewel in the crown is Army Men Air Attack, which is good mainly because the Strike and Choplifter concepts it's knocking off are good. Sarge's Heroes is knocking off some Platonic form of 3D action, which is a much more suspect model to pattern your game after. This is game development as headed up by the marketing team, and that's not going to result in an A-grade game anytime soon.
Thanks to the lack of creative enemies, the pacing of the game moves slowly. Since the game's whole point is action, this is certainly not a good thing. You have a decently sized choice of weapons, but they lack balance and innovation, and you'll only need a couple to get through the game. Sarge's Heroes 2 never branches out into any challenging or puzzling areas. It's just raw action, and there are far better action games out there that deliver a wealth of different experiences instead of just one mediocre event.

GameSpot (Dec 14, 2000)
3DO's Army Men has returned to the PlayStation, this time in Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2. General Plastro, fresh from his defeat in the first Sarge's Heroes game, has teamed up with Brigitte Bleu, a treacherous Blue Spy, in an effort to reclaim his troops and destroy the accursed Green Army. The game contains 16 missions of toy-soldier combat, and you'll control both Sarge and Vikki as they infiltrate refrigerators, reconnoiter zombie-filled graveyards, and destroy more than a dozen of those blasted teleportation portals. If the plot sounds horribly contrived, that's because it is. Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2 is nothing more than the continuation of a theme, but more than that, it is also the worst Army Men game to date.
