Aimed at little girls with very little interest in videogames (but who are aware of the Olsen twins), "Mary-Kate and Ashley's Magical Mystery Mall" is decent fun for the young, single-player female crowd. Unless you crave unfair comparisons between the superior PSX competition this Winter, know full well that this game (a) is for little girls, (b) looks a little rough around the edges, and (c) will set Dad $40 back for pleasing his little princess with the presence of the stars of "Full House".
Why do they have to dis on girl gamers by making ooey games like this? There's a lot of fun to be had in this mall, but then the gameplay is sucky, and so are the graphics. Mary-Kate look like the real thing, and the fashions and dances are fun, but the mall itself is all jerky and confusing, and some of the special effects aren't so special. When the game does look good, the control gets in the way. I just wish game makers would watch girls play games when they make their own, because then they would see that what a girl wants is simple -- good gameplay. Then after that, it doesn't hurt to have cool fashions and funky music and two crazy girls...
