A good barometer of what console gamers think serious gaming is. That is: Arcadish, overhyped, childish and with lots of cheese. Zovni (10638) 1.6 Stars1.6 Stars1.6 Stars1.6 Stars1.6 Stars

To prawdziwy pokaz geniuszu.

Overall, this game does the one thing I love the most, and that is it's something new! New gameplay, ideas, and concepts are given here in full. The graphics are nice touch not great, but not bad either. The SoundFX shine combined with the Dual Shock. And you won't be let down; this game has a Plot. Oh my god you say, well I'm not lying, the big plot and hours of cut scenes to prove it too. Metal Gear Solid is one Solid game; I'd have to go out saying damn good job Konami.

A triumph of style and originality, Metal Gear Solid may quite possibly be the best Playstation game of all time.

To sum it all up the game could well be the best title for the platform ever - if not it is very close. If you like the stealth/adventure genre then you will fall in love with this game. If it is not your thing, play it anyway, you will be converted within a hour!

In conclusion, the faults of MGS have to be overlooked when faced with a package this incredible. This will be the game that everyone will be playing, talking about and demanding for Christmas and the rest of 1999. I highly recommend this game and give it my highest approval rating yet. Don’t waste time. You need this game. NOW SOLDIER!

Chapeau.

Metal Gear Solid leaves me with nothing to whine about. How boring.

Don't listen to the hype surrounding this title because it doesn't do the game justice. Do yourself a favor and purchase Metal Gear Solid at all costs. It is truly a classic gaming experience that no gamer from any background should pass up. Remarkable.

Metal Gear Solid is, in my opinion, a product of gaming perfection. From its excellent cast, and its memorable cut-scenes and dialog ("So you're the one that the boss keeps talking about."), MGS is a game that everyone who calls themselves a gamer should play. It can be played at a slow pace, sneaking around the environments, not being seen. Or you can go in Rambo style, guns blazing and taking names, it's really up to you. But was really sells the game is the story. Never in an action game has a story been told the way the one in MGS is. For that reason alone, it deserves a look. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Metal Gear Solid is the rarest of things: a video game with looks, brains, and heart. Its combination of excellent action and superb story line makes it one of the PlayStation's top titles.

No doubt about but Metal Gear Solid is probabbly one of the greatest games ever created. The gameplay is spectacular, sound is extrodinary, and the graphics are to die for. Although people say the game is not long, they are kind of right (if you skip everything, skip all of the scenes, don't care about what there talking about, don't fell like getting all of the secrets etc.) Yeah so if you do that you skipped the whole game.

Game Vortex (Nov 12, 2000)
The game works very well. Metal Gear Solid uses the dual shock feature in a variety of ways, each of which is expertly executed. If you don't already have a dual shock compatible controller, this game is reason enough to get one. Even the FMVs use the dual shock feature (the first time you see the helicopter scene... well, you'll see). Every aspect of the game seems to be nicely integrated, providing an easy to play (yet, not easy to win) game with a high level of complexity. The only part to get used to is that Metal Gear Solid uses the circle button as the action button, while a generally accepted standard in PSX games is to use the X button as the action button. Once you learn the controls, however, everything meshes together in a graceful way. Metal Gear Solid exhibits a level of attention to details which all other developers should strive to achieve... on any gaming platform.

IGN (Oct 21, 1998)
An admittedly ambitious project from the very beginning, Metal Gear Solid has managed to deliver dutifully on all of its promises. From beginning to end, it comes closer to perfection than any other game in PlayStation's action genre. Beautiful, engrossing, and innovative, it excels in every conceivable category.

I'd be almost certain that there isn't a soul out there who hasn't played the game of Metal Gear Solid already -- other than anti-video game parents, girls, guys, and the youngsters. But if you haven't had the chance to play the game yet, this time would be a great opportunity with the arrival of the sequel. How often do you get a chance to become the invincible invisible man? Never, I'd say. For the fun, flare, and fulfillment of it all, Metal Gear Solid is one of the greatest games ever made, and shouldn't be passed out on by anybody!

PGNx Media (Aug 26, 2002)
Mr. Kojima knew he had made a winner in spite of the fact that he was constantly under the gun with Konami due to major development troubles early on and it cost the company millions. Any doubts were quickly subdued when the game was a monster hit in the US and in Japan. This game went on to be nominated for 25 awards and it won four. It should have won Best Story, but OoT's story was also outstanding, so it was kind of tough. This is the true meaning of an epic

Mega Fun (Feb, 1999)

Having now completed Metal Gear Solid in it's entirety I must say that this title sits proudly among the top five experiences that I have enjoyed since the Playstation was launched back in '95. The PSX is no longer the console that can only produce graphical treasures... it now has a good looking title in which gameplay comes out firmly on top.

Game Revolution (Oct 01, 1998)
Let's face it - the hype surrounding Metal Gear Solid would be hard for any game to match. It won numerous awards after E3, and deserved most of them. In the end, we have a great game, one of the best for the system. But its diminished length and excessive no-interactive plot hold it back from truly reaching the highest plateau. Still, this is a must have for any PSX library and a ton of fun.

Edge (Oct 05, 1998)
Ultimately, Metal Gear Solid rewards players in a way only a pitiful number of games do. Just when you think there’s nothing else that it can do to surprise you, along comes a situation that requires a new use for a weapon, or an alternative application of a familiar button. Until the game is finished, its gameplay elements continually threaten to change, offering players new challenges to deal with. While it lasts, then, this is one of the most compelling and satisfying experiences PlayStation owners are ever likely to experience.

GameSpot (Sep 25, 1998)
At its core, Metal Gear Solid is truly a lesson in stealth. Forget about running into rooms with your gun blazing, leaving nothing alive but an occasional rat. Here, living by the gun readily equates into dying by the gun. Why bother fighting the guards when you can just sneak around behind their backs, crawl along walls just out of the sight range of surveillance cameras, and hide behind boxes?

I know what you're doing right now. You're staring, mouth gaping open, eyes wide, at the Metal Gear Solid (MGS) logo that is up there where the Reviewer's Choice Award is supposed to be. "Where is it!?" you ask, "This must be a mistake! How on Earth could the sequel to two of the coolest games ever to grace a Nintendo, be anything less than the most miraculous spectacle any reviewer could ever dream of?" I hate to burst your bubble, Gracie, but the award is missing for a reason, and I don't mean that somebody stole it. Some background is in order, though, before I get into the meat of the game.

One day it would be so great to go up to Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear games and say to him about Metal Gear Solid, ''Sir, you have created a game that is both original and good. Sadly the parts that are good are not original and the parts that are original are not good.''
