Sega rally is dead - long live the new king of Rally Racers! This game features so many tracks, so many cars and so many options, all of which will ensure that it has a massive lifespan. The control of the cars is very unnatural at first, but soon becomes second-nature. This is one of the very best PSX games ever to have been released, so the advise is quite simple - BUY IT!
Mega Fun (Jun, 1997)

Without a doubt this is the prettiest racing game so far and there's plenty to see and do, but as for the difficulty level, just don't say we didn't warn you...

Overall, the game is definitely fun - once you get the hang of it. So if you're willing to invest a little time and patience, and you love racing games, Need For Speed V-Rally is the game for you.
V-Rally wipes the floor with all other titles like this. It is as good as, if not better than, Sega Rally in many elements, and is definitely worth purchasing.

Having said that, though, with the sheer wealth of racing games available on the PSX, the appeal of Need For Speed: V-Rally really comes down to personal interest. If you're more of a CART/F1/weird futuristic kind of a racing dude, it probably won't deliver the thrills you're after. If you like the thought of driving a powerful car off-road, V-Rally's balls-out racing will definitely deliver the goods. If, like me, you really like rallying, it'll blow your socks off.
Edge (Jul, 1997)
The PlayStation driving game market is an overcrowded one, but by adopting a feel which is a marked shift from standard bearers such as Rage Racer, Infogrames has succeeded in producing a game which complements other examples. This is a brave game, then, whose endeavours to distinguish it as its own title serve to earn it must-have status to driving game aficionados.

The more I played this game and the better feeling I got for the control, the more it grew on me. I love the idea of the enormous number of tracks and the different environmental conditions, but the control just took a bit too long to get the hang of. Also, this game did not have many high flying jumps or anything. Even if this is not very realistic, it keeps us arcade racing fans happy. All in all, this is not the best racing game ever, but it is also not the worst.
Overall V-Rally is a bit of a let down as quite a number of basic features have been neglected. If you're after an arcade type racing game, then this will suit you down to the ground. If on the other hand you're after reality, physics and an immersing racing game, then don't bother! The ticket price isn't very much so if you have a spare $50.00 run out and buy it. However if you want value for money, this probably won't be for you.

All in all, V-Rally could have been one of the best driving games ever, but because of its shoddy control, it simply becomes a great-looking game that isn't worth playing. If you're in the market for a driving game, there are several better choices out there.
