Test Drive: Off-Road (TDOR) provides some exciting alternative racing action. The competition vehicles and race tracks offer a new experience for racing enthusiast. TDOR includes a number of features that should make this a great racing game. Unfortunately, this is not the "Ultimate" off-road racing game, but it is fun and challenging.

Test Drive Off-Road is a unique game that will give you some stiff competition on the hard setting. I really like the idea of off-road racing, but it was difficult to remember that speed is not always the best method to win races. Unfortunately, the drawn-in rate was so slow that I found myself unable to explore the shortcuts of the tracks, because by the time I realized I was at a shortcut it was too late to stop. This is the only thing that keeps the game from being a real winner. Otherwise, this is an enjoyable title as long as you don't go off the track in the wrong place and get stuck. Definitely worth a weekend spin to see if it is for you.

The suspension and realism of the vehicles and the hardcore Gravity Kills soundtrack could make Test Drive the perfect gift for off-road fanatics. However, those looking for pure arcade racing should realize that Test Drive can't quite compete with the big boys.

After completing the twelve courses (which takes a fairly short amount of time), you won't be hungry for more. Test Drive: Off-Road is a good first attempt, and hopefully Accolade will be able to improve on its basic concept and release an update next year.
That's about it as far as the racing goes; there's not a lot of diversity in the gameplay and it all comes down to how much fun you have while racing the vehicles. Had the pop-up been minimized, the courses more diverse (all are either desert, snow or forest) and the graphics more appealing, then maybe this would have been a worthy alternative to more straightforward racers. Maybe.
