Description
A sequel to
Poker Night at the Inventory, it once again thrusts the player into the world of the Inventory to battle for money and prizes in high stakes poker with a cast of characters from cartoons, comics, movies and video games.
The cast consists of:
With GLaDOS of
Portal fame as the dealer along with appearances of Reginald Van Winslow from the
Monkey Island franchise, Max's partner Sam, Doug from the
Walking Dead as well as Madd Moxxi and the bandit Steve, also from
Borderlands.
The player can choose from two types of poker to play (Texas Hold'em and Omaha) with the goal to try and win against the cavalcade of characters who tend to banter amongst each other and break the fourth wall numerous times. The player can win money but the true currency of the game are Inventory tokens which can be won depending upon how he/she finishes (anywhere from 10-100 tokens). These tokens can be used to buy special chips, table felts and poker decks that tie in with the characters and when all three are activated, the backdrop will change to that particular franchise and have unique banter, costumes as well as winning animations (provided the player wins) and animations for when characters bust out.
Another thing the player will try for are personal "bounty" items, five in all, that tie in with each character ranging from the Necronomicon to Sam's Banjo. To obtain these, a player must first fulfill a randomly-selected list of three challenges as they play, like winning hands under certain conditions ("steal a hand at the river"). Then, once the bounty is revealed, they must win a game to receive the item. If they lose, they can try for the item again in the next tournament. Once an item is won, the bounty challenges reset and the player is given a new set of challenges to fulfill in order to unlock the next item.
Not only will the player win a personal item, they can also win special skins and heads to use for their characters in
Borderlands 2 but also special prizes depending upon the platform they are playing on. Xbox 360 users will receive items they can use to put on their avatars, PlayStation 3 players will receive premium themes and Steam users will be awarded items they can used towards
Team Fortress 2.
