DescriptionIn Polarity players take the role of a hacker hired to extract data fragments from a virtual vault system. This happens in a virtual reality environment, with the player walking inside the database in a first-person perspective. Each level must be explored from an entrance to an exit, with platform and gate puzzles to be solved. The puzzles are based on the "polarity" of the player and of the objects found, represented by two colors: blue and red. When the polarity is matching, players can go through obstacles; otherwise they are barred, so when facing a gate players must change their polarities to the same as the gate, but when facing bridges, players must change to the opposite polarity or they will fall through them. Some devices like powered ramps and glass gates can be only turned on or off by placing polarized cubes on matching pedestals. Cubes can be placed or thrown from a distance and are destroyed by lasers. Throwing cubes through green light gates will reverse their polarities. Some other objects can be turned on or off by operating switches.
On each level, players must find up to three data fragments. Finding all data fragments isn't mandatory to complete a level, but further levels can only be unlocked by finding a number of fragments in previous levels. The game has four main modes: a single player campaign, single player bonus levels, a local co-op campaign and a versus mode (multiplayer is only available on the PC version).
