Police Simulator is a single player resource management game that aims to combine simulation and real-time strategy. The player starts with control over a small part of the city and begins by recruiting officers and buying police cars for their police station. Officers are then assigned to duties, they can patrol on foot or in their cars or they can be assigned to perform id checks on the streets. When a crime is committed officers are be assigned to investigate. If they arrive quickly they may catch the perpetrator, otherwise the CSI guys get to analyse the trace evidence which they pass to the detectives who go out and make the arrest.
The city the player protects is always viewed from a top-down point of view and there are different strategic maps which show safe/unsafe areas, areas where crimes have been committed, and where current units are positioned. At the start of the game the player is in charge of a small area of the city and can only recruit standard officers and routine patrol cars. As the game develops the player's influence expands to cover the city and the equipment they needs also expands to include helicopters, SWAT units, riot police and water canon.
