Call of Duty 3 on current-generation is an amazing port of the Xbox 360 game. Treyarch put in a lot of work to make this one of the most technically impressive games on both the Xbox and PlayStation 2. The Xbox 360 version still has larger levels, more characters onscreen, and significantly better graphics but the current-generation versions are no slouch. This is a markedly better game than Call of Duty 2: Big Red One and the finest World War II gameplay on the current-generation consoles.
Game Chronicles (Nov 08, 2006)
The best thing I can say about Call of Duty 3 is that after playing I actually felt like I had been through a war. There were moments when I would catch myself physically ducking or leaning my body as I tried to look around a corner. I started to appreciate the men in my unit and a sense of loss when somebody was lost. Signing up and going off to war might not be for everybody, but playing this game will certainly make you respect those who did and those who still do.
Game Captain (Nov 26, 2006)

Call of Duty 3 really is a kick-ass game on the Playstation 2, and includes all the components of the XBox 360 and PS3 versions, albeit with reduced visual quality. This is quite possibly the last in the series we'll see on current generation hardware, but if you're not planning on upgrading soon there's no excuse not to get Call of Duty 3 on the PS2. Activision continue to milk more power out of the system with every new title, and the overall result is one of the best First Person Shooters on the system since its release. If you like this genre then there is really no reason to ignore this game. Fantastic.

GameSpot (Nov 28, 2006)
Call of Duty 3's action is fast-paced, and the sound effects and music are some of the best in any game this year. Treyarch did a fine job of bringing all of the great action of the PS3 and 360 versions onto the significantly less powerful Xbox and PS2. Thanks to slightly better graphics and smoother online play, the Xbox version is preferable over the PlayStation 2 version, but even with some technical issues, the game is still great on the PS2. If the Call of Duty series hasn't won you over previously, Call of Duty 3 isn't going to do much to change your mind. But for anyone else, Call of Duty 3 is a must-own.
GamingTrend (Nov, 2006)
Call of Duty 3 is a near masterpiece for the Playstation 2. If you're still behind the generation leap, this game needs to be on your radar. It provides fantastic visuals that has few rivals on the PS2. The sound and music of the game are top notch. The realism and grittiness of the game pull you right in and completely immerse you in the battle. I can't sing enough praise for how this title snuck up me, but sadly it did have to end. Also, if you have Call of Duty 3 for another console there is no reason to get this one. Nor is there any reason to get it if you want something different from the traditional Call of Duty formula. But if you are looking for an excellent WWII FPS game on the Playstation 2, put this is at the top of your list.

IGN (Nov 15, 2006)
Treyarch has managed to keep the PS2 version of this game surprisingly close to the other consoles. A lower average frame rate and some muddy graphics bring the game down a bit but its still an exciting WWII shooter.
TotalPlayStation (Nov 28, 2006)
That's a good thing, for as much as I dug all that scripting, and the game did move beyond the usual dug-in, burned-out, rubble-filled cities of previous games, it all still feels a little too familiar. Solid, yes, but familiar. I mean no disrespect for the men that died protecting freedom, but considering I was born a good 30 years after the war ended, familiarity with this setting probably isn't a good thing.
Nuts (Nov 17, 2006)
You've survived D-Day, so it's time to liberate Paris and slaughter more Nazis. Gut-churningly realistic WW2 action.

From landing to conquering, the COD3 experience is a great one, and we’d suggest any fan of the series or even of the genre to check it out. The visuals are very well done and the sound is simply incredible, especially with the score it has. The gameplay hasn’t changed much and may get dry for those who are hardcore followers to the series, but veteran mode will be a sure bet to blow blood-vessels for any player. The additions to the multiplayer scene add replay value but you may want to borrow or rent a copy first to see if you have any connection problems. If you have the option, then either the Xbox 360 or the PS3 editions should be your first choice. Nevertheless, COD3 is a keeper and definitely worth a look in any form.

Each time you die, you'll get the chance to see some of the most famous war-related quotes of important men like Winston Churchill, Napoleon or Sun Tzu. The game seemed difficult at first, especially due to the annoying analog control and the camera angles, but it got easier as I progressed. All that dying in the beginning got my friends thinking that I wanted to get killed in order to see those wise quotes. Call of Duty 3 is not a bad game, but it's not a great historic shooter either. The graphics kill the superb atmosphere and with the new Medal of Honor on its way, I would really start trembling if I were the producer.
HardGamers (Dec 21, 2006)
Gamer 2.0 (Feb 05, 2007)
Call of Duty 3 could have been more than just another copy of previous installments, but with unnecessary gameplay mechanics, dumb AI, and a forgettable storyline, it brings nothing new in terms of enjoyment. Gorgeous visuals and a great multiplayer simply could not save Call of Duty 3 from being just a different battle in the same tired war.
70 (Nov 25, 2006)
Gamebrink (Nov, 2006)
Take one part classic Call of Duty scripted FPS action, add in two parts improved level design, another one part updated graphics, and just about four parts upgraded multiplayer and you’ve got the ultimate Call of Duty stew. It’s cooked, ready to serve, and should definitely be on your shopping list.

So if you're looking for an all-out melee, then Call of Duty 3 is your game. If you want something that's somewhat stealth mission-based, then you might want to give SOCOM U.S. Navy SEALs: Combined Assault a whirl. Hitler. That's it. In Call of Duty 3, you fight the forces of Archie Hitler! Wait...
