Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles

aka: Naruto: Uzumaki Ninden
Moby ID: 26601

PlayStation 2 version

Quite good, but very boring.

The Good
The graphics: I thought the graphics were rather incredible. Since Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles is only on a PlayStation 2. The graphics were rather outstanding to look at, I thought this can't be a PlaySatation 2 game... Well, the graphics are the best part of this game.

The sound: Since Naruto is a Japanese franchise, I really enjoyed all of the soundtracks. The sound also matches the game, too. Oddly enough, unlike the other Naruto games, this didn't have Japanese phrases, such as 'come on!'.

The Bad
The story: I would say this didn't follow the story within the manga or anime. In Japanese version, it follows the storyline of the anime filler episodes. While in the English version, it takes place within Season Four and Season Five, sometime after the Chunin Exams. Although Shikamura didn't become a Chunin. Also, this game is very different. There's no fighting!

The gameplay: Set into different stages or missions, you must either accept or decline. At times, you must fight about ten enemies at once, even though it is just doing the same mission all over again! I thought doing that was very boring.

All you must do is smash the buttons, and that's about it. You also have partners, which you can deploy at any time. Just like Naruto, the partners also have special attacks, if one runs out of Chakra, it's back to being Naruto for you.

The Bottom Line
If you really enjoy watching or reading Naruto, then rent this game out before buying it. To myself, this game is very boring. Sometimes I do enjoy playing it every once and awhile. Plus, this is very different from the other Naruto games, there is no fighting against the other characters.

Be prepared to be very disappointed.

If you enjoy playing the Naruto games, get Naruto: The Ultimate Ninja. That will give you some real fun. If you are ready to master more fighting, get the second game of The Ultimate Ninja series!
