College football is about atmosphere, and NCAA Football 09 manages to capture this environment handily thanks to items like school chants and cheerleader stunts. The improvement of jukes and ballcarrier moves adds depth to your offense, while the inclusion of features like the Quarterback Quiz and Icing the Kicker makes the overall gameplay stronger. The Online Dynasty is an excellent addition to this series, but the mistakes made with the Campus Legend mode keeps this year's title from being truly extraordinary.
So this is what happens when EA Sports works to the best of its ability to create a good gridiron game. I have to say, I’m very surprised, impressed, and happy. NCAA Football ’09 is nothing less than a football masterpiece which ranks alongside the Tecmo games or anything 2K Sports is allowed to create these days. It’s just a great football game in nearly every way.
Last year, NCAA's minor adjustments were a mild step backwards for the franchise on the PS2. This year, by extension, it’s a weaker example of what happens when a developer's attention has shifted towards the newer systems. While the focus towards new or casual players is an admirable one, the lack of innovation or indeed improvement on previous issues that have plagued the title for years is something that is dismaying for players that own the older system and haven't upgraded to the newest and latest machines.
