Worth Playing (Jun 06, 2006)
Overall, I was impressed with NHRA Championship Drag Racing. It's a budget title that went a long way to stretch each dollar that went into development. The deep tuning component and the long career mode make the drag racing complex and enjoyable, even for someone like me, who finds drag racing to be a fairly boring sport. There is a lot to learn about the cars and how they operate at different times of day and on different track conditions. There are some miscues here and there, but the final product is sure to please drag racing fans.
IGN (Aug 29, 2005)
As a genre, drag racing has a way to go before it can dethrone reigning NASCAR and Formula One titles (in terms of completeness and depth), but NHRA offers a good amount of complexity. Even if the game does fail to incorporate a wealth of extra features and the presentation required to make the in-depth tuning a more enjoyable sort of problem solving, the base gameplay offers plenty for content starved drag racing fans. And this regardless of however budget it may feel and however narrowly appealing it may be. Besides, where else can you race in 125 degree air temperature and on a 180 degree surface with 100% humidity in the dead of night?
Yahoo! Games (Aug 29, 2005)
There are just a lot of little details that fell off the priority list somewhere along the way. At least NHRA does feature a solid collection of basics, a host of real drivers and venues, and a good amount of extra bonus content including a dozen videos, driver profiles and the like.
Daily Game (Oct 15, 2005)
Even with the lack of options, NHRA Championship Drag Racing is still the most in-depth drag-racing simulation ever released for a console. Whether you will actually enjoy it is based solely on how big you are of the world’s fastest motor sport. If you’re just looking for a racing game, you’re better off looking elsewhere. But if you’re looking specifically for a drag racing game, this is the only game you’ll need, and you can’t beat the $15 price.
