Poker Masters

Moby ID: 68895

PlayStation 2 version

Pretty average fare

The Good
The best thing about this game was that it was cheap in a bargain bin somewhere. If I had paid a lot for it I would have been disappointed because, to be honest, it is boring.

The Bad
There's not much to dislike about the game, apart from the music which is both soulless and repetitive - thankfully there is an in-game option to turn this off.

The game just lacks any form of flair. There is no in-game taunting, no banter or conversation. Speech is limited to 'Call', 'Fold', 'Raise' with the odd character occasionally saying 'I think I'll .....' for a bit of variety. Also the pace of the game is so slow, with six players in the game it seems to take an age for each AI player to do their stuff so that much of the player's time is spent waiting to press CROSS to Check/Call.

The Bottom Line
Some poker games can suck you into the gameplay and are actually fun to play. This, unfortunately, is not one of those. Everything is fairly competently done but there's no fun element, no 'Wow!' factor, and without those the game becomes tedious, boring, and a chore to play.
