So is CVX worth it? Hell yes, go out and buy it now and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of Resident Evil, and then allow your jaw to drop at the incredible Devil May Cry, which IMHO is going to take the world by storm just as much as Metal Gear Solid 2.
If you're one of the Resident Evil faithful that fell to the wayside during its Dreamcast fling, rejoice! The mothership has returned home, and it's time to once more nearly crap your pants.
Returning to its roots, the finest chapter within the immensely popular Resident Evil franchise is now available on a PlayStation console. While a simple port would have been more than sufficient, Capcom and executive producer Shinji Mikami have enhanced the project through the implementation of additional footage. Moreover, Capcom has also included a lengthy playable demo of Mikami’s next project, Devil May Cry.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X is clearly the best game yet produced for the survival-horror subgenre of adventure gaming, in spite of its flaws. This should speak volumes on just how compelling the game can be and how high its production values are that they can outweigh these other issues, but it should hopefully also make it abundantly clear what areas the series needs to improve to continue to impress us as much as this game has done.
PSM (Sep, 2001)
In fact, aside from the addition of a few new cinemas and a couple of very minor character design changes, both versions of the game are practically identical. While not as scary as some of the past games, Code: Veronica X is easily the most polished and impressive looking.

Luckily, some people were never able to play the scariest in the series. Me, being one of them, am having a blast. This game's out there for those of you who have never played the Dreamcast version, or for those of you looking to play the new Devil May Cry demo; which happens to be quite a fun time. Either way, survival/horror fans of the RE series should definitely give this title a try. And if you really are intending on giving the game a try, be sure to stock up on a couple packages of light bulbs while you're at it. Frankly, I have never been as scared from a Resident Evil title before.

PSX Extreme (Aug 28, 2001)
In the end those who've patiently waited for a PS2 Resident Evil title can rejoice with Code Veronica X, as a stand alone director's-cut the game is great, as a total package, which includes the Devil May Cry demo, this baby is worth every penny. Resident Evil Code: Veronica may not have the best PS2 visuals around but the package is pretty overall, the gameplay can get complex at times and may deem to be frustrating but nonetheless this challenge ads to the value of the game. The PS2 version also features 10 extra minutes of never before seen CG footage such as an all new intro, and even though the controls are the same as they've been forever, RE fans will over look the flaw and enjoy Resident Evil Code: Veronica X.
GameSpy (Oct 02, 2001)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X is an excellent package for those who have missed out on the DC version. The extra features are nice especially the extra DVD), but, once again, will not really enhance the experience for vets. Newbies should run right out and purchase the title for their collection, but vets should only rent it if they feel they would like to relive the experience with a few new additions.
Cincinnati Enquirer (Oct 10, 2001)
So, for those of you who are looking for a nail-biting good time and don't mind excessive violence and gore, skip renting a scary movie and step into an interactive horror adventure you won't soon forget.
PlayFrance (Apr 11, 2003)
