Every time you begin a replay game, a number of things will be added and/or changed.
One of the lesser known ones, is a magazine that appears at Woodside Apt. building's room 205 (where you find the flashlight).
The text changes every time, and disguised as the advice for the heart kind of tabloid, it actually offers hints on how to achieve another one of the endings of the game. Not very clear hints, that's true, but hints anyway.

This one will only make sense for those familiar enough with the game:
In the restrooms where the game starts, there are a few advertising posters of the "Heaven's Night" pub.
In these, we can see Maria's face.

Remember the mannequin in the Woodside Apt Buildings, the one that was holding the flashlight? In case you didn't notice it, the clothes on the mannequin are the exact same Mary is wearing every time James has a flashback about her!

Silent Hill 2 —and the previews of SH3— reveals the "SH series" as a multi-character based series, in which the different chapters will solely have in common the physical location the action takes place in —this is, Silent Hill.
However, there are several small signs for the trained eye to find, that tie up the different games to one another, so the binding between the different stories is more complex that it appears at first sight. ******************* * SPOILER ALERT * ******************* If you look closely at the carpet in the Hotel Lobby during the Two-Pyramid-Heads boss fight, you'll notice two very feint circular designs on the carpet.
This is the infamous Mark of Samael, imported directly from the first Silent Hill; a major factor in the story behind the curse of Silent Hill. For SH players, there are clearly higher powers in action here. ******************* * /SPOILER END * *******************

In the original Silent Hill, the fog was used to cover up the draw distance, due to the limited memory of the PlayStation.

In this game, the fog is purposely used to create a sense of atmosphere and limited visibility, adding to the overall, frightening aspect of the game.
