Soccer Mania is a simple game. It doesn't promise to do much, but what it does do, it does fairly well. The Lego license -- even if not exploited as much as it should have been -- is a plus. Its varied modes of play and background story help keep the attention of the younger audience the game is geared towards; even older players will enjoy the game's multiplay. Plus, anytime you can keep those sharp little pieces of plastic in a virtual world and off the floor, it's a good thing. But, and perhaps most importantly, Soccer Mania will let you officially end one of the sporting world's fiercest debates once and for all.
Lego Soccer Mania is a decent enough soccer game, but it doesn't have the depth or overall seriousness of design to impress those looking for something substantial. Fortunately, it's easy enough to get into that kids can have some fun with it, and obviously a game need not appeal to all markets to be considered decent for what it is. Soccer fans looking for a new game might want to give Lego Soccer Mania a rental for a weekend or kick the game over to their kid brother for extended testing.
