Far in the future, an Earth destroyed by war is abandoned by humanity. In order to revive the planet a project, code-named 'Project One', is started, and ultimately creates the girl Suguri. Suguri is able to restore life to Earth, but one day she notices an alien invasion ship entering the atmosphere. Using her skills she is able to stop the ship and befriend its inhabitants. They all go on to live happily until one day another ship is seen approaching Earth.

Acceleration of SUGURI X Edition is an unconventional vs fighter similar to Senko no Ronde. Both characters float around each other in a circular arena, and can dash to move faster. Dashing also builds an over-heat meter that multiplies damage received if hit. Each character has unique weapons at their disposal, such as tracking lasers, volleys of missiles, and swarms of pods. Three single-player modes are included: a no-frills arcade vs mode, a story mode following the appearance of a mysterious space ship, and a second story mode following the discovery of a recipe for a tasty sweet. 2P is available in both online and offline.
