If you’ve got yourself one of those newfangled Playstation 3s, andyou’re looking for a good few hours of single player fun pick up Callof Duty 3, it’s well worth your time, especially if you have a networkof other PS3 fellows to go with it.
PGNx Media (Nov 15, 2006)
Call of Duty 3 is in the uncomfortable situation of innovating and adding new features while being similar enough to previous games to please loyal fans. Call of Duty 2’s best features—the action-packed gameplay, the multiplayer and presentation—have all been improved in the sequel. Although the singleplayer campaign only lasts for 8 hours or so, this is a game that you will probably want to replay in the different difficulty setting and play for countless hours online. The PS3 version of the game is just as impressive as the Xbox 360 version and while it doesn’t have split-screen multiplayer, it makes up for this with the Sixaxis functionality.

Overall CoD3 is a blast. For a first timer like me the games difficulty was well balanced. The learning curve wasn’t too steep as the game does well to ease you into the battles. I was impressed with the games visuals and controls. The cut scenes are right in the game, creating a realistic feel with nonstop action. On top of all that, the sounds of gunfire, and enemy cries really helps to bring the environment to life.

As the highest-profile title from the 360’s launch, Call of Duty 2 certainly found its way into countless gamer’s homes last November. It was a terrific gameplay experience that was slightly marred by some major lag issues online (initially). Call of Duty 3 is a similar beast in some ways, but things have changed a bit. This time around, the single-player is a bit on the weak side, but the online play shines. If the patch truly does fix the matchfinding process, COD3 will easily be one of the best games on the Playstation Network. The single-player may only be worth one or two playthroughs, but I can see many gamers getting countless hours battling the Nazis online.
Playstation Front (Apr 03, 2007)
GameZone (Nov 15, 2006)
The game mechanics and general feel of the game are not overly different from what gamers are used to, but that this is brought to such vivid life on a console is a tribute to the diligence of the developers. The game still looks great and sounds terrific, and the game advances the historical time frames of the franchise. Better use could have been made of the sixaxis controller, though.
With the 65th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor just passing, the release of Call of Duty 3 would feel appropriate...if not for the fact that a new installment in the franchise gets released each year. I would suggest to Activision that they need to give the series a break, even though Call of Duty 3 is a fantastic entry into the series. With 32 player online multi-player, split-screen offline multi-player and system link, as well as a relatively long single-player, this is one of the few next-gen games that can be justified for the $60 price tag. If you need a second choice shooter after Gears of War on Xbox 360 or Resistance on PS3, Call of Duty 3 should be your pick.

Deaf Gamers (Apr 30, 2007)
Call of Duty 3 is a fine addition to the PlayStation 3's catalogue and I'm sure FPS fans will appreciate having a Call of Duty title available so early in the console's lifespan. Having now looked at three versions of Call of Duty 3 it's fair to say that the PlayStation 3 version is second best to the Xbox 360 version thanks to the slightly poorer multiplayer experience and the frame rate that just isn't as consistent as it is on the 360 version. The problems are minor however, and the game not only looks great but is enjoyable to play. Fans of World War II FPS games will definitely enjoy what Call of Duty 3 has to offer.

In Call of Duty 3 developers Treyarch (Call of Duty 2: Big Red One) do a very good job of capturing an authentic WWII feel. You will see shots coming at you from every angle at times, making completing your objectives feel more frantic. Enemies take aim from windows and from behind cover. At times you will feel truly immersed in warfare. Other times you will often find yourself yanked back into the real world when Call of Duty’s few slight missteps and bugs pop up. Call of Duty rounds out the PS3 launch lineup well, and offers a more realistic first person shooter experience in comparison to the preeminent PS3 shooter: Resistance: Fall of Man. Considering the lack of key options and the number of glitches, Call of Duty 3 still stands out amongst console first person shooters overall, and the solid multiplayer options even without voice support will give the title life for a long after you complete the single player campaign.
PSX Extreme (Dec 01, 2006)
Call of Duty 3’s single-player campaign clocks in at a standard 8-12 hours, which is a solid length for this type of game. There is enough depth with the added vehicles, diverse environments, and wide variety of mission objectives, and despite the repetitiveness of that AI, it’s still darn effective. You’ve got those glitches that are a bit too significant and you might not find anything all that innovative here, but all in all, the game is an excellent FPS. There’s really nothing major to complain about, and if you can’t have fun with this one, you’ve either finally grown sick of the WWII shooter, or you’re simply not a fan of the genre.
While Resistance: Fall of Man will enjoy the lions share of marketing and publicity this November, shooter fans would be doing themselves a disservice by not picking up Activision’s latest offering. Top notch graphics, immersive game play and sound all add up to another solid, but not revolutionary first person shooter.
Games Master (Apr, 2007)
Not only does the PS3 version of Call of Duty 3 have all the flaws of the Xbox 360 games, it also manages to add a few that are unique to itself. The colours seem a little more faded, gameplay bugs seem more frequent and the multi-player options aren't as satisfying as on Xbox Live with the lack of voice systems (it's just not the same when you can't shout at someone). Fortunately, such is the ferocity of the action that many of these faults will be forgotten when you're pounding the Hun from the seat of a Polish tank. Just remember that, for all its emotive plus points, its far from faultless.
GameSpot (Nov 14, 2006)
World War II may have ended in 1945, but that hasn't stopped the axis and allies from waging war against one another on the video game front. And now there's a new battleground--the PlayStation 3. With Call of Duty 2 developer Infinity Ward having moved on to other projects, the series has been placed in the hands of Treyarch, the developer behind Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. It did not disappoint. Call of Duty 3 on the PlayStation 3 is a great game with thoroughly enjoyable multiplayer, quality presentation, and some mildly-interesting tilt-control support. It is missing a couple of features that its Xbox 360 counterpart contains, and the frame rate is far less reliable in this version, but the overall intensity and playability of Call of Duty 3 remains intact, despite these few issues.
Overall COD3 for the PS3 isn’t that bad of a game. On the positive side of things the visuals are pretty solid, the sound is stellar and the gameplay is pretty good. However, on the other side of the coin are a few graphical hiccups and anomalies followed by a few gameplay bugs that manage to make the PS3 version slightly less then its 360 counterpart. If you own a 360, you’d most likely be better off playing that version if you haven’t done so yet. However should you only own a PS3, you will still enjoy this game as it has a lot of good points to it.
GamingExcellence (Mar 06, 2007)
From landing to conquering, the COD3 experience is a great one, and we’d suggest any fan of the series or even of the genre to check it out. The visuals are mind-blowing and the sound is simply incredible, especially with the score it has. The gameplay hasn’t changed much and may get dry for those who are hardcore followers to the series, but veteran mode will be a sure bet to blow blood-vessels for any player. The additions to the multiplayer scene add replay value but you may want to borrow or rent a copy first to see if you have any connection problems. COD3 is a keeper, and definitely worth a look.
Game Chronicles (Dec 07, 2006)
Call of Duty 3 is easily the best in the series (or at least a tie with COD2) but the PS3 conversion just doesn’t do it justice. If this is the only next-gen system you have then you should go ahead and play it, but if you own a 360 you’ll have a much better experience, both solo and online.

It would be easy to pick holes in Call of Duty 3 but, bar a few unfortunate technical problems, they really don't matter. It might be a predominantly linear path shooter, but who cares? When the atmosphere and level of action on offer is this great, the fact that I can't wander off to see what's behind a tree half a mile to the East really doesn't bother me. I can certainly live without poor WWII first-person shooters, but when they're as much fun to play as Call of Duty 3, I'd happily play them year after year.
Video Game Talk (Jan 09, 2007)
While I have mixed feelings about WWII games I have become a fan of the Call of Duty franchise. It handles the war with the correct amount of weight and presents a realistic enough atmosphere that it could almost be a first person documentary. There are a few dings in the PS3 versions' flak jacket though and this isn't an entirely smooth ride. The SIXAXIS control is kind of silly, there are many glitches online, and the framerate drops for practically no reason sometimes. If you can overlook those flaws (and don't have a 360) then this is a game definitely worth your time. It's a solid action experience all the way through.
Deeko (Dec 06, 2006)
Call of Duty 3 for the PS3 is a great launch title for the system and not just "the shooter other than Resistance." It has a good, fast-paced single player campaign and hearty helpings of multiplayer. There are a few little technical issues both with the mechanics and graphics of this title, but it's certainly nothing that should keep you from playing it.

GamePro (US) (Nov 17, 2006)
Overall, CoD3 succeeds in surpassing the two previous titles on all fronts and if you're looking for a straight answer as to which version is better, here it is: the PS3 version's weaker graphics and moderately interesting Sixaxis controls come in second to the overall experience on the Xbox 360.
Computer Bild Spiele (Apr 04, 2007)
Video Games Daily (Nov 06, 2006)
First-person shooters need to be stunning to be highly recommended in a crowded market these days, and while Call of Duty 3 is stunning at first, it's unremarkable on the whole. Nonetheless, it's an impressive shooter and essential for all WWII game fans, including owners of COD2.
IGN (Nov 20, 2006)
Fans of Call of Duty 2 and the series in general will no doubt enjoy Call of Duty 3 (if they don't have access to another platform). It recreates the fury of World War II with a strong bravado and offers a shooting engine that makes single-player and multiplayer sessions equally fun. Sure it comes up a little short compared to the pacing and overall level design of COD2, but the real crime here is found with all the glitches and other technical problems that make the Normandy Breakout feel more like the Normandy Lockup. It's really too bad, because considering how good it is despite all of its problems, imagine how great it could have been without them.
While not incredibly original or terribly compelling, Call of Duty 3 isn’t a bad game. There is definitely fun to be had playing through this title as long as you aren’t turned off by yet another WWII shooter. The only major problem I have with this game is that it has all been done before. If you’ve played several WWII shooters, you won’t find anything really new here. If you are a fan of the genre, you should definitely play this game. If not, Call of Duty 3 is just more of the same and should probably not rank high on your list of titles to seek out and play.
FOK!games (May 03, 2007)

The Next Level (Feb 02, 2007)
Call of Duty: The new Madden? Another year, another CoD, and as far as the World War II experience goes, we've been here before. It's definitely a step up graphically, and on a technical level it's definitely far superior to its predecessor, but with Treyarch at the reins instead of Infinity Ward, this feels like more of a buffer to hold us over for the next real CoD than a complete, original experience.
GotNext (Feb 02, 2007)
With this review, I won't mince words: If you've played Call of Duty 2, you absolutely do not need to play this game at all, and you probably shouldn't, especially on the PS3. Call of Duty 3 really feels like last year all over again, and aside from a few gimmicky controller tweaks, the gameplay is exactly as you'd find it on the more solid Xbox 360 version. It's a rental at best, and even then only if you've played Resistance to death or you've never played Call of Duty 2.
G4 TV: X-Play (Dec 19, 2006)
Call of Duty 3 is a very solid first-person shooter; a worthy successor to the last year’s surprise console hit. While it lacks the polish we’ve come to expect from original developer Infinity Ward, it’s still a fun, if dangerously familiar campaign through 1940’s Europe. It’s just doesn’t offer anything unique or new to the genre.
GameSpy (Nov 22, 2006)
If you're trying to decide which system to get Call of Duty 3 on, I strongly urge you to pick up the Xbox 360 version. It's more polished, better-looking, runs better, and offers a superior online experience thanks to voice support and more servers and players. The PS3 version is still fun, but the experience is dulled by noticeable slowdown and muddier graphics. The same bugs from the Xbox 360 version are present, as is the same overall lack of polish. Yes, the game still has some intense moments, and yes, it does "feel" like a Call of Duty game. It's just not the best version of this title that's available.
